Fan favourite Nick Grimshaw has revealed he would be up to returning to the airwaves full-time following his stint on BBC Radio 2.

The Celebrity Googlebox star quit full-time radio back in August 2020 when he signed off BBC Radio 1 after 14 years fronting various shows, including the famous breakfast slot. But Nick couldn't hide his excitement last month as he announced his temporary return to the BBC Radio studios.

Nick will be covering for Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2 for a few Saturday afternoons as the former X Factor contestant takes some time-off and continues to care for his beloved mum Linda. "Continuing my substitute teacher role I’ll see you this weekend from 3 and then on & off for the next couple of months. How fun," Nick gushed as he was confirmed as Rylan's replacement on October 31.

But does this mean Nick is ready to return to the airwaves full-time? Is he planning to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Zoe Ball, Sara Cox and Scott Mills, who all found a home at Radio 2 after leaving sister station Radio 1? "I really have missed it. It's been such a treat to do it again. It's been brilliant," Nick exclusive told the Mirror last week whilst chatting about his radio comeback.

The star, who hosts hit podcast Dish alongside Angela Hartnett, continued: "I love doing it. I love the routine of it. I love hearing from people. That's the only thing that you miss on podcasts, is the sort of constant chat, basically, from listeners. You get emails and voice notes in [on podcasts] but I like that radio can go any way.

"We're doing Radio 6 and Radio 2 on Saturdays at the moment as well and I guess the live element of it is a lot more fun. It's slightly more terrifying in that it's live, but it feels more connected, I guess, to people that are listening, because they're able to interact immediately. So I did miss that. And I missed that the daily task of trying to find the thing that everyone's talking about that day. I love that, like the sort of, you know, the general conversation of the country. The texts are always so funny and interesting.

With over a decade of radio experience under his belt many of Nick's fans might be surprise to hear the broadcasting legend was a little nervous about returning to the airwaves after a few years away. "When I was off and was thinking about returning, I was thinking 'Oh, my God. Radio! This is terrifying. Like, me in a room with no one around but everyone's listening?!

"But you don't want to overthink it. When I was thinking about before, I was like, 'this is terrifying. I'm just talking to a wall' but then when you get in there, it's so natural, and you never think about it, ever. Once I'm into it, I love it, and I never think about it. But you don't want to overthink it as a concept."

And what a return full-time? "I don't know," Nick told us last week when asked if a new show was in the works. "I mean, I've only just started doing my cover on [Radio] 6 and 2, but I don't know yet, because don't know how long I'm doing [these shifts] for... but I just love it. But, yeah, I would love to go back to radio. I love it!"

Nick was speaking to the Mirror as he helped eBay launch its 'Listings in Lights' campaign, a spectacular installation set in London's bustling centre. This showcase is part of eBay's push to encourage private selling and allows shoppers to peruse previously-loved treasures ranging from luxe goods to fashion, home items, gadgets, and toys from sellers all over Britain.

Hot on the heels of last month's move to scrap selling fees for private sellers in the UK—making it absolutely free to sell in all categories apart from motors—the timing couldn't be better. As festive spending pressures loom, research reveals a whopping 55% of folks are keen to make some extra dough before Christmas, and an even more impressive 66% admit they've got unwanted items at home they'd like to hawk.

Celebrated broadcaster Nick, alongside his niece Liv, is also chipping in with their own set of prized possessions up for sale, in aid of the Albert Kennedy Trust, an LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity.
