The Carabao Cup semi-finals first leg takes place this week with four Premier League sides eyeing for a spot in the final with Wembley Stadium over the horizon. Arsenal welcome Newcastle to the Emirates Stadium to kick things off while Liverpool travel to face Tottenham Hotspur the following day with the second legs taking place in a month's time.

For some of the sides, the pressure will be mounting to bring home some much needed success including the two north London clubs. Mikel Arteta has expressed his expectation of winning a trophy this season as the Gunners look to lift their first League Cup since 1993 while Spurs' Ange Postecoglou, who has gone on record to talk about his trophy-winning record, has one of only two chances of lifting a trophy this season.

Elsewhere, high-flying Liverpool will be looking to bring home a trophy under Arne Slot in the Dutchman's first season. The former Feyenoord boss has received plenty of plaudits for his impressive run so far since taking over from Jurgen Klopp but he knows that trophies will be the main talking point of any legacy he aims to leave behind.

Eddie Howe and his Newcastle side will no doubt have their final appearance from two seasons ago at the back of their minds as they look to better that moment but have a tough task ahead of them against the bookies favourite to lift the trophy.

Arsenal Odds

Shifting focus across North London, Mikel Arteta finds himself in a similar position, where securing a trophy this season could be crucial. The Spaniard made an immediate impact at Arsenal by clinching the FA Cup during his first year at the helm.

The former Man City coach has already spoken about trophy expectations this season and the bookies expect them to be in the final at the very least as they are the competition's favourite going into the semi-finals right now at 6/4.

Since then, aside from the Community Shield, Arsenal's trophy cabinet has remained largely untouched. Nonetheless, Arteta's side has shown promise, pushing hard for the Premier League title over the past two seasons, only to be narrowly pipped by Manchester City.

Bringing home some silverware would not only boost morale but also solidify Arteta’s standing among Arsenal supporters as the right man to guide the club into its next chapter.

Liverpool Odds

While Liverpool wouldn't turn their noses up at the Carabao Cup, their ambitions this season seem to lie elsewhere. Under Arne Slot's guidance, the Reds are eyeing both the Premier League and the Champions League, which are expected to take precedence.

That said, Slot would certainly relish adding a trophy to his collection in his first year, making it a successful campaign even if other titles remain elusive. The Premier League leaders go into this week's semi-finals behind Arsenal as the favourites with best prices at 13/8 at the time of writing this.

A loss in the Carabao Cup would certainly be a setback for Liverpool and Slot, but it wouldn't derail their broader objectives for the season.

Newcastle United Odds

The narrative of Newcastle's trophy drought is a familiar one, especially since the Saudi-led financial injection into the club. The new proprietors are eager to rewrite this narrative, a fact not lost on manager Eddie Howe as the Magpies go into this round as underdogs at 6/1 with some bookies.

Howe, previously at Bournemouth, has had a few brushes with silverware during his tenure at Newcastle. The team advanced to the Carabao Cup final in 2023, only to be outplayed by Manchester United at the iconic Wembley Stadium with a goalkeeper crisis in the build-up to it all as well with no Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka cup-tied.

Moreover, they made it to the quarter-finals in both of last season's cup tournaments. Despite these achievements, there are whispers that the club's owners might consider a managerial shakeup if Howe doesn't deliver a trophy soon. Needless to say, there's more than just pride riding on a trophy win for many at Newcastle.

Tottenham Odds

Turning to Tottenham, their trophy drought is a well-known saga, with their last triumph being the League Cup in 2008. Much like Newcastle, Spurs have had their share of near misses.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, they reached both the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals, and they also made it to another League Cup final in 2021. Despite these efforts, success is yet to be achieved at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving fans and the club frustrated.

Last season saw them exit the FA Cup by the fourth round, and with Ange Postecoglou facing mounting pressure amid a challenging Premier League campaign, securing a trophy could be crucial. Not only would it quell criticism, but it would also ensure European football next season—something not guaranteed through league standings at this point.

The Australian has already go on record to say he always wins trophies in his second season wherever he has been which will no doubt magnify the pressure as they face a Liverpool side who a thriving under Slot.
