A man has caused a stir online after showing off how he cleans his loo seat in the dishwasher with his dishes.
TikTok user Alison Koroly posted a video that seems to show her other half yanking their toilet seat and chucking it into the dishwasher for a speedy clean. The 12-second viral sensation amassed nearly two million views in just three days, leaving viewers gobsmacked and questioning if it's for real, especially since she tags her posts as "short films and comedy sketches".
One shocked viewer commented: "You can't eat at anyone's house..." while another exclaimed: "Yep, just throw the toilet seat in next to the plates." A third chimed in: "I'm never buying a second hand dishwasher." Yet another pleaded: "Not with dishes in it already - please God no."
In an attempt to reassure her audience, Alison spoke to the New York Post, saying: "Our goal is to create entertaining content that people would laugh at and find fun and funny, and light-hearted." Despite the comedic intent, Dr Brian Mangum, an associate professor of medicine and epidemiologist at University of Health Sciences Antigua, has warned against this unconventional cleaning method.
He highlighted: "The bigger issue, though, is what happens after you remove the toilet seat from the dishwasher." He added: "Consider the fact that your toilet seat is already full of germs, and you have now potentially transferred those germs to the same dishwasher where you will wash your children's plates after pizza night.
"Would you eat pizza off the toilet seat, even if you had cleaned it first? Probably not. You would be much better off just using bleach or other commercial products designed to kill germs."
In response to Alison's jest, one user quipped: "I wash my dishes with my toothbrush - shame to waste that excess toothpaste." Another user chimed in: "I put my dishes in the toilet and flush. Much faster." Another user added: "Don't forget to put the toilet brush in the dishwasher as well!"
