"****ing strong coffee" and "never sleep again" aren't the sort of slogans that tend to be etched across the typical coffee jars I pick up on the weekly shop. But Skull Crusher leaves you with absolutely no doubt, it's a coffee with attitude that's going to give you one hell of a boost.
I'm no stranger to caffeine, and probably drink a bit more than I should, but I've always seen coffee as among the best of life's simple pleasures. You just can't beat a lovely warm mug, be it while you're reading a book, having some breakfast, or simply to get you through a long meeting.
It's obviously renowned for helping to give you a bit of a boot into gear and add a spring in your step, but Skull Crusher is unlike any coffee I've ever had before, and boy does it pack a punch. I recently turned 30, got a new puppy and, frankly, will take an energy boost wherever I can get it.
Opening the pouch, I filtered the ground coffee through a cafetière then added a splash of milk and I have to say it tastes very nice. I find some high caffeine products can get a bit carried away with the whole energy boost thing and forget about the actual taste, but there were no such problems here.
Around half an hour after I'd had my first cup I could feel the caffeine buzz rising through me to the point I just wanted to get up and sprint somewhere - in hindsight, having it at my desk during the middle of the day maybe wasn't the brightest idea. The downside? Well it's not going to be for everyone, and definitely not for those who are either sensitive to caffeine or have health issues that are made worse by strong caffeine content. It did give me a buzz, and while I wasn't bothered by it, I imagine there will be people out there who won't like the feeling.
