If you’re flying from a UK airport on any airline, arriving at a UK airport on an EU or UK airline, or arriving at an airport in the EU on a UK airline, you have rights.
Can I get a refund?
Passengers whose flights are cancelled can get a full refund for the part of the ticket they haven’t yet used, or a replacement flight.
What if I still want to travel?
Your airline is supposed to find you an alternative flight.
But that’s easier said than done as just getting hold of the airline can be a battle.
Can I claim compensation?
Yes, if you received less than 14 days’ notice of the cancellation.
However, that won’t apply if you are offered a new flight that departs within two hours of your original one.
You also have a legal right to help with costs, if the cancellation delays you for two or more hours.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
A: That depends on when the flight was cancelled,
the distance of the flight, and the departure and arrival times of the rescheduled flight.
What about if I get a replacement flight and incur other costs?
A: Your airline legally has to help you with things you need, including food and drink, access to phone calls and emails, and accommodation if you are delayed overnight.
How long the delay has to be depends on the distance of the flight and the countries it is flying between.
What if I can’t get hold of my airline, and need to travel urgently?
If your airline is unable to help, you can organise a new flight and claim back the cost later. Keep all emails and receipts, and proof that you tried to contact them.
