Hundreds of tenants are set to demonstrate in London against the capital's "spiralling" rents.
Organisers the London Renters Union (LRU) said a rising tide of renter-driven protests is erupting across Europe, drawing attention to the crippling effect of steep rents and the call for regulation.
The rally in central London this Saturday will coincide with one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Elyem Chej, representing the LRU, said: "We are sick and tired of seeing our city carved up by the rich and powerful. It is disgraceful that ordinary people have to uproot their lives because a landlord or a developer thinks they can get more money."
"Rent control can take the pressure off renters right now while we continue to push for the public homes we need and deserve."
The LRU has highlighted how soaring rental costs in London are driving millions of residents "to the brink".
