James Corden has played Boris Johnson in an Saturday Night Live sketch on the NATO leaders gossiping about Donald Trump being late.

Corden was joined by Jimmy Fallon, who played Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, and Paul Rudd, who played French President Emmanuel Macron, in the Nato cafeteria sketch.

In it, the group of world leaders attempt to keep Mr Trump (Alec Baldwin) from sitting at their table, eventually inviting German Chancellor Angela Merkel (Kate McKinnon) to join them instead.

Corden, who sports a tousled blond hairstyle in the sketch, delivers lines such as "why don't you Brexit out of here, dweeb?" before turning against Baldwin's Trump by declaring "I'm hanging out with these guys now."

The sketch plays on an incident earlier in the week in which a group including Mr Johnson, Mr Trudeau and Mr Macron was filmed apparently gossiping about the US president's unorthodox style at Buckingham Palace, although Mr Trump is not mentioned by name.

"Let's get some lunch, maybe some wine, because we are bad boys," said Rudd as Macron.

Suddenly, Alec Baldwin appeared as Trump, causing more conflict over the seating arrangement.

"He’s like dumber than Boris," Fallon’s Trudeau said of Trump, and Corden’s Johnson agreed.

"Those are my best friends," Baldwin’s Trump said, unaware of the fact that he was being made fun of by the group.

"We run this place." He then realized that he was at the 'loser table'.

The trio were nice to Trump’s face, asking him if he lost weight and telling him he looked good, but the minute he walked away, they went right back to gossiping — including about his belief that because of climate change 'we need stronger toilets'.

“He’s like dumber than Boris,” Fallon’s Trudeau said.

Seated at a nearby table, Kate McKinnon reprised her impression of chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, who was thrilled to be invited to the cool kids table.

As Trump turned around to exit the cafeteria at the end, a piece of paper that read "Impeach Me" in black marker was revealed as taped to his back - after Corden's Boris snuck up and stuck it there..

Cecily Strong appeared at the end of the sketch as Melania Trump , preaching against bullying while also promoting Peloton, the exercise bike brand that was recently mocked on social media for its commercial.

“Are you a scared woman?” she said. “Why not imagine biking away from it all? On Peloton. Merry Christmas to me.”

In December 2018, the American comedy show took aim at erstwhile prime minister Theresa May after the former Tory leader survived a confidence vote, with McKinnon playing Mrs May and Matt Damon in the role of David Cameron.
