EDDIE LEWIS has told Neil Warnock: "We are coming to get you."
US midfielder Lewis struck his fourth goal of the season as Leeds claimed a sixth straight home win to keep the heat on promotion rivals Sheffield United.
Just weeks ago, Warnock's men looked odds-on for the second automatic promotion spot behind runaway leaders Reading.
But the Blades are feeling the heat of the chasing pack with Watford closing in while Leeds are just eight points adrift with a game in hand and set for a massive promotion clash at Bramall Lane in April.
Lewis - who doubled the lead given by Jonathan Douglas at the start of the second half with a closerange finish from a Rob Hulse cross - said: "We're putting the pressure on.
"If we keep it up it'll come down to the last couple of games. Every point is one nearer to them. Sheffield's form is getting a bit rocky and it'll only get more like that. We're looking forward to the massive six-pointer we've got coming up against them."
Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell, Warnock's former No.2 at Bramall Lane, insists the Blades boss will be feeling the pinch after losing to QPR.
He added: "I know Neil will be hurting after that defeat. We're looking strong and it's really game on for us, lots of clubs would love to be in our shoes."
Lewis suffered the heartache of a play-off final defeat for Preston against West Ham last year, and is determined to avoid the dreaded end-ofseason lottery this time by hauling in Leeds' Yorkshire rivals.
He added: "Promotion's been the aim since I came here, and I'd rather not do it through the play-offs. It's a massive prize on offer, and we want to go straight up."
Douglas slid home the opener from Robbie Blake's pass at the start of the second half after Luton were denied a certain penalty when defender Sean Gregan handled in the box.
The midfielder dedicated his goal to Gary Kelly, who made his 500th Leeds appearance.
Douglas said: "Sheffield United are wobbling and we'll certainly keep the pressure on. It's going down to the wire.
"We'd love to go straight up but we're confident of doing it through the play-offs if need be."
Steve Howard came close to ruining Kelly's big day - but was left with little to celebrate after hitting a milestone of his own.
Luton were close to staging a late fightback when the big striker headed his 100th career goal - and was only denied 101 by Neil Sullivan's great save at the end.
Howard claimed referee Keith Hill bottled it as Gregan handled just before Douglas' opener.
Town's top-scorer added: "It was definitely a penalty, but smaller clubs are always going to struggle to get decisions for them somewhere like this.
"They can be very intimidating places for referees, but there's a fair chance it would have been given for Leeds at the other end.
"It's nice to reach the mark because I've gone a few weeks without a goal, but it's a bit of a hollow feeling because of the result."
Patched-up Luton played some good stuff, but they have fallen off the pace after a great start to their Championship return.
Their hopes of a top-six spot have been scuppered by a run of just one away win in 12 league games, but Howard insisted: "We're still in with a shout of making the playoffs, we've not given up the fight."
Furious boss Mike Newell - who saw defender Sol Davis ordered off in stoppage time for a second caution - fumed: "Leeds got away with murder. Everyone in the ground could see that it was a definite penalty, and to make matters worse they go to the other end and score straight away.
"It was a double whammy. The Leeds player clearly handled and the assistant was 15 yards away with a clear view but he does nothing.
"Gregan had both hands above his head, and it's changed the game.
"The referee said didn't want to discuss it afterwards and we can't change anything now.
"We all make mistakes but I just wish referees would explain themselves."
