Shocking footage shows a raging motorist try to drag a learner driver out of their vehicle.
The alarming confrontation, which happened yesterday at 11am in Trinity, Edinburgh, saw an angry man "punch and grab" at the learner’s window before he "tried to drag them out the car". One worried witness said the middle-aged man had "sped" down the road and cut off the learner like they were "in a police chase". The witness then became concerned for both the driver and instructor as tensions were heated.
Footage shows the latter part of the road rage row, which brough traffic to a standstill in the suburb in the north of the Scottish capital. Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the witness said: "It is the worst road rage I've witnessed... He came screaming up the wrong side of the road at about 60mph to block the learner driver."
The witness continued: "I only managed to catch the second half but it started with him punching the window, and trying to rip the glass off as the window was being wound down. The learner driver was heading down the road when the black van came speeding down after the learner at around 60 mph and then cut in front of the learner like it was a police stop.
“He then decided to get out and start shouting at the learner’s side of the car and tried breaking and punching the glass off the window. He then walked around to the passenger side and tried to drag the person out of the car. It made me feel incredibly distressed and fearful for the safety of the people in the learner car and of course myself in the car behind.”
In the video, a man in shorts can be seen reacting angrily and slamming the learner car. He later leans into the rolled down passenger window and gesticulates aggressively at the driver and instructor and shouts at them. The angry motorist then opens the door and appears to try to drag someone out of the Volkswagen Beatle.
Throughout the clip the man can be seen waving his hands and acting aggressively towards those inside the car while his van is parked in front of the learner vehicle. The Mirror has approached Police Scotland for comment.
