A Sainsbury's shopper claimed she nearly fell to her knees after seeing the inflated price of fish fingers.
Food prices have been vastly increasing in all supermarkets over the past few months with Lurpak butter famously reaching a mind-boggling £7 for a single packet.
And while the cost of living crisis has affected fuel prices and energy, the price of food continues to sky-rocket across the country.
One shopper was so appalled by the price of fish fingers they had to take to Twitter to share their shock.
They wrote: “Nearly fell to my knees in de people food establishment” alongside a picture of a packet of Birds Eye 30 Cod Fish Fingers (totally 840g) being sold for £7 at the popular supermarket.
Social media users rushed into the comments to share their disbelief.
One user simply wrote: “£7? Jesus soon reach.”
Another added: “I remember when this was £3.50. Wow.” A third replied: “Sainsbury’s absolutely bugging.”
Some even shared their shock at what other products were costing them, with one user explaining it would be cheaper to live off fast-food giant McDonalds.
The user said: “I paid £3.80 for @Warburtons gluten free wraps yesterday- it would be cheaper to live off mc ds at this rate.
"There’s 5 wraps in there. Sickening.”
One person worked out each finger would come to a total of 23 pence, asking: “23p each is bad???”
Another replied: “Yes. Especially at that volume.”
The tweet went viral and racked up thousands of likes and retweets and social media users shared their disbelieve at the latest increase in food prices.
According to the website Compare Grocery Prices they noted Sainsbury’s were initially selling the same product for £6.75 as of March 3 2022.
The same data revealed back in February 2022, the fish fingers were being sold for £6.50 a packet but didn’t specify if the price was across various supermarkets or one specific one - as food prices continue to steadily increase.
