A prison guard filmed having sex with an inmate is reportedly sharing the same prison wing as Sara Sharif’s killer stepmum and killer nurse Lucy Letby.
Linda De Sousa Abreu was jailed yesterday for 15 months after police investigated a video shared on social media that was alleged to have taken place inside HMP Wandsworth in London. It is now reported that she will be held on the same wing, known as House Block 4, at HMP Bronzefield, Surrey, as notorious killers.
It is used for those serving life sentences and also those prisoners who are given better conditions due to good behaviour. The mother-of-one, from Fulham, South West London, was arrested and pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office at Isleworth Crown Court in July last year.
Returning to the court this Monday, she was told she would serve half her time in custody and the rest on licence. The bombshell court cause heard how the prison officer agreed to take part in sexual activity with Linton Weirich in his cell on June 25 last year, with a second prisoner filming it while appearing to smoke cannabis. That prisoner sent the video to a friend who shared it on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Suggesting that it wasn't an isolated incident, Judge Martin Edmunds KC was also asked to consider two further offences - one being sexual activity with the same prisoner earlier that day and the other being a separate sexual encounter with Weirich within at least three to four days of the main offence.
And now in jail she is set to get an en-suite shower among other perks in H Block 4, said a prison source, reported The Sun. It is claimed that “high profile” prisoners can be held there to keep them away from other inmates. Letby, who murdered children while working as a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, is believed to be held in the wing, as is Sara Sharif’s killer stepmum Beinash Batool.
The prison source said: “The inmates in House Block 4 are kept apart from the rest of the prison because some of them are high risk or high profile cases. They are kept away so that they are not attacked by other prisoners who might have seen their case on TV.
“All the baby killers band together in there - Lucy Letby, Beinash Batool, Sian Hedges and Michelle Smith. They get more space, a private courtyard, and all the cells have bigger beds with showers inside the room. They spend so much time there together. They all eat together unless they choose to eat in their cell on their own. Even though they are in there for such horrible crimes, it is almost like they are being protected.”
Sentencing De Sousa Abreu, Judge Edmunds KC told her: “You engaged in sexual activity with a prisoner. That compromised your role as an officer, and was misconduct which undermines discipline within the prison, and puts fellow officers at increased risk. You knew that conduct was forbidden and forbidden for good reason.”
He continued: “From what I know about you, you were certainly not naive about the media or social media. It must have been obvious that the recording would be shown around and shared, at least amongst prisoners at Wandsworth where it would do the most harm. Whether you intended it or not, the fact is that the video went viral, and caused great harm. Many offenders do not intend the harm that their offending causes, but they nevertheless bear responsibility for it.”
The Mirror contacted Sodexo, the company managing the prison, who declined to comment.
