Many spend hours deciding what their Christmas table will look like, from fancy candles and crackers to plates - so when one man served his Xmas dinner in a foil oven tray, people were left horrified.

If we're 100 percent honest, the huge lovely dinner is possibly the best bit about the festive season, and everybody has their own unique twist on it - but some non-negotiables include lashings of gravy and crispy roast potatoes.

However, for the person hosting, it can become quite a stressful affair, so they may take sneaky little shortcuts in order to make life easier for themselves. And for one man, it was serving the food in a foil oven tray.

But after sharing his time and mess-saving hack online, he has been accused of being "lazy," the Daily Mail reports, and his wife even said that it was a crazy idea.

However, since the family found it a much easier way to serve the meal, the couple decided to do it again for another year running. Yet not everyone was convinced by it.

One person said: "This ends up in landfill I presume. It doesn't take long to wash a few plates - get the family involved. Get the family involved and use the pretty plates instead of this." While another wrote: "No, no, no - I wouldn't eat off tin foil. So lazy."

The original poster did rush to defend themselves, saying that she and her husband "recycle often", justifying their use of the foil trays.

But some people did praise the hack, referring to it as nifty. "Might have to do this the way my toddler keeps smashing plates - she has plastic ones but gets hold of ours," one woman wrote, while another called the idea "epic."

A few people also admitted to doing something similar so that their guests can take home the leftovers, as one person put it: "It works well for us because it means what's not eaten from the buffet is taken home in everyone's containers."
