Alvaro Morata has admitted Spain's draw with Sweden on Monday has "cost him sleep" after his gilt-edged miss led to heavy criticism from fans.
The 28-year-old striker was targeted by whistles from Spanish supporters after firing an effort wide when he was through one-on-one with Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen.
Morata's chance came just before half-time and could have proved even more costly were it not for Marcus Berg's worse miss for Sweden just past the hour.
But he has hit back at those lamenting his performance and insists he will not let the criticism affect him.
"I can't be liked by everyone," he said., via the Mail. "When there are criticisms you have to respect them but listen little and work.
"In a match things happen so fast that you don't have time to think. The goalkeeper [Olsen] did very well [to close the space] and I had to adjust to the post.
"I don't know if [against Poland] the ball will enter the goal, but I will give 200 per cent every time I play for Spain. It is normal that when you draw a game and you deserve to win it, it costs you sleep.
"The opinion of the people does not change my mood. If I score I will be happy for the people who are always with me, but I am doing great.
"It is clear that the forward lives for goals. Our job is to score goals. Against Sweden I unloaded a lot physically and I think I did quite a few things well, but it seems like it all comes down to scoring. It's part of our job."
Spain are now under pressure to get a win in their fixture with Poland on Saturday evening to alleviate some of the tension ahead of their final group clash with Slovakia.
Boss Luis Enrique does have the prolific Gerard Moreno of Villarreal as an option to lead his front line, but he has backed Morata to come good and hailed his all round contribution.

"This morning I said it will be Morata and 10 others because he does so many things well for the team in attack and defence," said Luis Enrique.
"After 40 caps, only David Villa has scored more goals than him for Spain and he is the top scorer in the history of the national team.
"At international level, there is only one that beats him, which is Harry Kane."
Enrique added: "It's not only the number nine who has to score, it's about the midfielders, the pivots, the wingers, everyone has to. We are an offensive team, I don't know why I have to hold one player responsible."
Spain have been boosted by the return of midfielder Sergio Busquets this week after his positive coronavirus test.
The Barcelona star is now expected to be involved in some capacity against Poland.
"He is a very important reinforcement to all of us," Enrique said. "I will talk with my staff about whether he can be in the 23."
