Jarrod Bowen said the ballboy who was trapped by a fallen advertising board during West Ham's 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace is "smiling" and "all good now", while also being the recipient of the West Ham's star shirt.
Tomas Soucek's opening goal at Selhurst Park to with less than 25 minutes remaining sent travelling fans wild. However, the surge caused advertising hoardings at the bottom of the away end to collapse, causing a host of fans and the hoardings themselves to fall onto a ballboy who was sitting on the edge of the pitch.
West Ham stars subsequently rushed to the aid of the boy. Soucek quickly lifted the broken bit of hoardings up to allow him to crawl out, before he and Bowen were then spotted talking to the youngster to make sure he had not been injured amid the chaos.
Once the ball boy was safely out, West Ham players checked on him before he was led away by stadium security. Players were later seen chatting to him once again come the full-time whistle.
And Bowen has provided an update on the youngster, to whom he gave his match-worn shirt.
"Yeah, I just managed to grab him out as quickly as possible," he told BeIn Sport after full-time. "It was just instinct to do it. I’ve seen him after the game, he’s got my top now. He’s smiling. He’s all good now, which is good to see."
Soucek was the one to first spot the danger amid the fan revelry, making sure to alert the players around him of the danger. And Bowen was swift to react, helping to pull the boy out from under the potential crush and onto his feet.
Both Bowen and Soucek were on the scoresheet for Julen Lopetegui's side, with the Czech international opening the scoring in the 67th minute before Bowen all but confirmed victory five minutes later with his goal.
The victory marks West Ham's first of the new Premier League campaign following their opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
West Ham are back in action on Wednesday as they welcome Bournemouth for a second round Carabao Cup clash. Meanwhile, Palace are also in League Cup action in midweek as they host Norwich on Tuesday evening.
