Rio Ferdinand has told Thomas Tuchel he must make his new Chelsea squad understand his tactics very soon.
Frank Lampard was sacked on Monday on a whirlwind few days at Stamford Bridge.
The following day Tuchel was appointed after being sacked last month from Paris Saint-Germain.
Roman Abramovich made the German his top target to replace the club legend and has already sat in the dugout for his first game in charge.
Despite having just one training session under his belt - a few hours on Tuesday evening - Tuchel was at Stamford Bridge to oversee Chelsea's match against Wolves.
He fielded an experienced team, with Thiago Silva, Olivier Giroud, Jorginho, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger all starting.
But they failed to threaten Rui Patricio too much and the match ended 0-0.
Chelsea had an overwhelming amount of possession but failed to break down Wolves' stubborn defence.
And Ferdinand has told Tuchel that having the ball is all well and good but he has to teach his players to be able to penetrate low-block teams.
"He's going to have to get out on the training pitch and he's going to have to really get his tactical board out and make sure these guys understand that it's not all about possession," Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
"You've got to want to hurt and penetrate against teams, we said that at half time and there wasn't much more until really [Christian] Pulisic and Mason Mount came onto the pitch and they looked a little bit more threatening.
"Listen, you can't judge him on this game."
Meanwhile, Tuchel has set a realistic target for Chelsea to attain this season with the Blues sitting eighth in the Premier League.
“The title? That is far away,” he said. “No, we have to be realistic at the same time.
"When you sign for Chelsea as a player or a manager you sign for the expectation to fight for the title.
“That means Premier League, Champions League. That is absolutely right.
“But we have to be realistic. There are a lot of teams between us in the top four.
"So we have to make sure we don’t lose the focus. It's my job to bring the team to that level as fast as possible.”
