Leeds United have condemned a number of their own supporters for singing a chant about Israel international Manor Solomon that contains an anti-Palestine lyric.

The Football Association are also aware of the chant after footage of Leeds fans singing "Manor Solomon's on my mind and he hates Palestine" to the tune of the Manfred Mann song Do Wah Diddy Diddy away to Stoke went viral on social media. One clip has more than five million views.

"Discriminatory language or chanting is not acceptable and supporters could be breaking the law," a Leeds spokesperson said. "The club condemns this behaviour and has a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination abuse of all kinds.

"Tough measures and sanctions are in place across all English football leagues to tackle illegal behaviours within football grounds, and this involves but is not limited to, discriminatory behaviour and tragedy chanting."

Solomon is on loan at Elland Road from Tottenham and the 25-year-old winger has scored three goals and provided three assists in 16 league appearances.

Late last year Solomon had his Instagram account temporarily suspended following a number of pro-Israel posts.

Spurs insisted at the time that the 24-year-old did not publish any anti-Palestine content on the platform and contacted Meta, its parent company, to have the page restored.

A representative of Solomon said: “It’s ridiculous. He didn’t make any anti-Palestine posts, just support for his own country. It’s ridiculous. Instagram is ridiculous.”

Meta said the account was “removed by mistake” and not related to any published content but the Israeli FA insisted otherwise and posted a picture of the forward with his mouth taped over.
