It's been a long time since Leeds were last in the Premier League - 16 years in fact.
And what better way for them to be welcomed back into the top-flight than with a trip to the champions.
Liverpool know all too well what a long wait feels like having finally gotten over their 30-year title hoodoo.
The last time these sides met back in 2004, Liverpool went on to finish a mammoth 30 points behind winners Arsenal.
That proved to be Gerard Houllier's final act as manager, while Leeds meanwhile were consigned to relegation with two games to spare after a heavy defeat at Bolton.
Along the way Liverpool had recorded a 3-1 win over Leeds at Anfield, before the two sides shared a 2-2 draw at Elland Road in the last league fixture between them.
Remarkably one player from that meeting on February 29, 2004, is involved on Saturday.
Veteran James Milner was a fresh faced 18-year-old in Leeds' midfield that day, but Liverpool's vice-captain lines up on the opposite side on Saturday, aged 34.
Although it was a different player who scored against his former club that day.
Here's how the sides lined up.
Liverpool
Goalkeeper - Chris Kirkland
Pre-Jerzy Dudek's Champions League final heroics, Kirkland was battling it out for the no.1 jersey under Houllier.
Injuries took their toll on the stopper though as he left the club on loan the following year before sealing a permanent move away.
Right-back - Steve Finnan
Well remembered round Anfield as one of the better right-backs of the modern era.
Sadly for the consistent defender many fans lasting memory of him are as the man substituted at half-time in the miracle comeback of Istanbul.
Centre-backs - Stephane Henchoz and Sami Hyypia
Houllier's preferred pairing helped Liverpool to a unique treble in 2001.
The partnership came to an end along with the Frenchman's reign though as Rafa Benitez opted for another familiar Reds defender in the back line, eventually leading to Henchoz's departure.
Left-back - Jamie Carragher
Before he became the face of Sky Sports' football analysis, and even before he was considered a club legend, Carra was Liverpool's versatile utility man, and perhaps benefited from the absence of John Arne-Riise on this occasion.
Few could argue with his 737 appearances and second place in the club's all-time list, though.
Midfield - Danny Murphy
A mainstay in Houllier sides down the years, now also seen on screen providing coverage for the BBC.
Left Liverpool at the end of the '03/04 season, presumably as he'd got tired of scoring against Man Utd.
Midfield - Dietmar Hamann
Subbed on for Finnan in Liverpool's aforementioned miracle and credited for helping to turn the game around
Also scored a penalty in the 2006 FA Cup final with a broken foot.
Legend status firmly assured.
Midfield - Steven Gerrard
Remember him?... Me neither.
Forward - Harry Kewell
Opened the scoring against his old club having signed on the cheap in 2003.
Leeds arguably had the last laugh though as the Australian never quite hit the same heights as he did in Yorkshire during his injury-hit five-year spell on Merseyside.
Forward - Milan Baros
Another of Liverpool's Istanbul conquerors.
Czech striker Baros often played second fiddle to Houllier's other attacking options but eventually eclipsed their achievements to write his name in the history books.
Also bagged the equaliser against Leeds after the Reds had fallen 2-1 behind.
Forward - Michael Owen
The apple of Liverpool fans' eyes at the time.
No doubt more than a few tears were shed when their golden boy fled the nest for Real Madrid that summer.
And more than a few expletives were shouted when Owen pitched up at rivals Man Utd years later.
Didn't get on the scoresheet on this occasion - which was a rareity.
Subs
Jerzy Dudek, El-Hadji Diouf, Igor Biscan, Bruno Cheyrou and Emile Heskey
