David Moyes was “killed” by the withering words of Paul Scholes, writes Alan Nixon in the Sunday People.

Moyes stood and stared in disbelief as the Old Trafford legend laid into his side on TV after last month’s defeat to Manchester City.

The dressing room fell silent as the doomed Manchester United boss and his players listened to Scholes’ comments following the 3-0 derby thrashing.

Moyes hung on every word and said to his staff: “He’s killed me there.”

The Scot had already been briefed that there was a movement among former players in and around the outgoing Premier League champions against him.

But Scholes was the shock critic, having been brought in part-time to work with Nicky Butt and the development squad. His comments followed some acid remarks by Gary Neville – although it is his job to give his opinion as a highly-paid pundit.

Ryan Giggs was out in the cold under Moyes, despite previous denials, and the pair went a couple of weeks without talking.

Moyes was annoyed when Giggs seemed to imply training was monotonous. He also thought Giggs should have been more loyal.
