Steven Gerrard believes Mohamed Salah is the greatest African footballer to have played in the Premier League.
The Liverpool legend's answer means he overlooked the likes of four-time Premier League winner Didier Drogba and four-time African Player of the Year Yaya Toure.
Salah, who won last year's African Player of the Year, has had a phenomenal season for the Reds so far, having scored 32 goals in 38 appearances.
But the Egyptian's previous stint in the Premier League didn't work out so well. The winger joined Chelsea in 2013 but was shipped out on loan a year later before eventually being sold.
However, the 25-year-old's performances this term have given Gerrard enough ammunition to put him at the top.
Gerrard made the bold claim when asked on BT Sport if Salah is the greatest African footballer to have played in the Premier League. "It's a tough one," Gerrard answered. "Yes, probably.
"I think you have to wait to see how he finishes the season, but if he continues to get goals and set a record, then you have to say yes."
Michael Essien, Riyad Mahrez, Kanu, Yakubu, Lauren, Tony Yeboah, Jay-Jay Okocha and Emmanuel Adebayor have also wowed Premier League fans over the years.
