One of Arsenal's former players has told them to switch their gaze from RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko to Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Emmanuel Petit joined Arsenal in 1997, reacquainting himself with his former manager at Monaco, Arsene Wenger. They famously went on the win the Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season on English soil.

The midfielder has now offered his insight into how the Gunners should recruit this transfer window, in order to bridge to gap between themselves and champions Manchester City. Leipzig's Sesko is looking an unlikely move with the striker penning a new deal in Germany, but Petit believes he shouldn't even be considered the first name on the wish list.

Despite the goals that Germany's Kai Havertz has added to the Gunners' firepower, a true number nine has been the missing piece of the Arsenal title winning puzzle for some time. Sesko was the preferred choice pre-contract renewal, but Petit suggests Osimhen is the man who can make the difference up top in north London and also states Nico Williams, one of Euro 2024's star performers, is another who could improve Mikel Arteta's attack.

Speaking to bet365, Petit said: “Arsenal’s dream signing this summer would be Nico Williams. I've been watching him in Spain with his club, but he has impressed me a lot during Euro 2024, especially against Italy. It was a nightmare for the right back. I think he could have a huge impact at Arsenal.

"People have also mentioned Benjamin Sesko, but I think Arsenal need to look at Victor Osimhen at Napoli, this guy has all the character he needs to thrive.

“He’s got great ambition and when I mention his character, he reminds me of players who were in the Premier League back in the day, huge characters.

“He will work incredibly hard on the pitch and Arsenal are desperate to get a real striker. Osimhen can hold two central defenders easily. He can play on the ground, he can play in the air. It will be important as well on set pieces. He would add quality to Mikel Arteta's team.”

Osimhen has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as some other top European clubs, but the ex-Arsenal midfielder is hoping that he'll be gracing the Emirates next season in Gunners red.
