Manchester United's hopes of signing Alphonso Davies are up in the air, with the player's agent set to hold showdown talks over his future with Bayern Munich this week.

Davies is out of contract at the end of the season and the likes of United and Real Madrid are interested in signing the 24-year-old on a free transfer. However, Bayern are desperate to keep him and have been locked in talks over a new deal.

According to a report from Bild, Davies' agent Nick Househ has arrived in Munich for what could prove 'decisive negotiations' about his future. It is claimed that Bayern chiefs Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are feeling 'very positive' that Davies will extend his stay in Munich.

Reports have previously stated that United have been monitoring the situation and had made contact with Davies' representatives, with the Red Devils keen to bring in a new left-back due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia's repeated injury struggles.

When asked about his future in October, Davies was non-committal as he said: "As of now, my full focus is to stay healthy and to play the game with the club I'm with right now. I'm not focused on what's going on in the future.

"I'm just focusing on staying healthy and helping my team win. My team make me feel valued. The whole Bayern community make me feel valued. I see that each and every day."

United, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window with new manager Ruben Amorim stating: " While the window is open, we can try to do something and we will try to do something, but I think, in the next weeks, we are going to have more time to train and we can improve, that's the only way.

"We had a lot of games without training, now we will have more space to grow. You can see that the context is worse in this moment, as we had a lot of losses, so we have to manage everything.

"The only solution we have is to work hard. We cannot change the last game, we can work on it, evaluate, but we cannot change it. So, let's focus on the next one and work hard during the week."
