Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has warned his former club off signing France midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Rabiot has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent years and links have again appeared in foreign media in recent weeks. He is currently a free agent, having walked away from Juventus in the summer after failing to agree a new deal in Turin.
His mother, Veronique - who also operates as his agent - has previously fanned the flames, telling Gazzetta dello Sportthat she is on “excellent terms” with the powers-that-be at United.
However Saha insists the club, having added Manuel Ugarte to their midfield before the transfer window closed last month - the Uruguay international could make his debut this weekend against Southampton - should NOT make a move for Rabiot, claiming he’s not needed.
“I don’t think so, no,” he told Betfred. “I don’t believe he fits the profile of player that we need at the moment.
“We’ve just signed Ugarte and we also have Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, so we already have No.6s and No.8s in the squad.
“We’ve let Scott McTominay go, who was a big threat going forward, but I don’t believe Adrien is the type of player that’s going to help the forwards to score goals. He’s got a big engine and a huge amount of experience but we’ve just signed Ugarte, so even though I really like Adrien as a player, the move doesn’t make sense to me.
“I don’t believe the club needs to concentrate on signing another player in that position.”
Rabiot has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United as the Magpies look to further strengthen. The player is not keen on a switch to Saudi Arabia at this stage in his career, and wants to remain in Europe.
