Millwall face competition from Birmingham City and Wrexham in their bid to bring Ryan Longman back to The Den on a permanent basis.

Longman, 23, was given the green light to spend the 2022/23 campaign on loan with the Lions from his parent club, Hull City, and made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Londoners.

The versatile forward scored three goals and registered a further three assists and was one of Millwall's top performers after club legend Neil Harris was parachuted back in to help the Lions avoid relegation from the Championship back in February.

Millwall are keen on bringing Longman back on a permanent basis - but Mirror Football understands that there are other clubs in the Championship and from abroad in the mix for Longman. Furthermore, Birmingham and Wrexham, two of League One's big-hitters with cash to spend, also fancy a deal for the former Brighton academy graduate.

Birmingham and Wrexham are expected to be among the teams fighting for promotion from League One this summer and both have funds to strengthen their squad.

Others have the advantage of being able to offer Longman Championship football, though, and the player enjoyed the time he spent at Millwall last year. He enjoyed a strong end to the season in a settled position after filling in across a variety of roles and was awarded the club's Goal of the Season award for his stunning strike against Leicester back in April.

Longman is into the final year of his contract at Hull and will be sold by the Tigers this summer. Harris outlined after Millwall's Championship finale that the player had made it “very clear” that he wanted to stay at The Den.

Speaking to the South London Press last month, Harris said of Longman: “Longy was brilliant for me. He showed some excellent attributes to be a really, really positive attacking influence as a Millwall winger.

“I really enjoyed working with him. He’s a brilliant character. He is a player we have stayed in touch with and the door was firmly open for Longy to certainly work with me and the football club in the future.

“Sometimes in football, things can change quickly. Hull have changed their manager not long after the season finished and players then might be in plans or might be out of plans. There’s certainly been a continued relationship between Ryan and myself regarding what the future years might hold.”
