Max Verstappen and George Russell kneeled beside together and smiled in a photo before this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The duo were snapped together after this season's final Grand Prix Driver's Association meeting in the United Arab Emirates. Some people may be surprised by their photo, given their volcanic feud at the Qatar GP.

After Verstappen was given a one-place grid penalty when Russell told stewards the Dutchman had impeded him, the latter claims the Red Bull ace threatened to crash into him and "put me on my f***ing head in the wall". While Verstappen denies saying these comments, he has refused to row back on his own criticism of the Brit.

Tensions were palpable during the customary end-of-season driver dinner following Thursday's media day, where Russell, arriving last, was humorously offered a seat beside Verstappen by his peers. Although Russell acknowledged Verstappen, he chose to sit at the far end of the table next to his Mercedes colleague Lewis Hamilton.

Yet, at the final GPDA gathering of the year, Verstappen and Russell were seen side-by-side, taking centre stage in the group photo. Alexander Wurz, co-chair of the GPDA, explained to ORF that it was the other drivers who suggested they stand together, reports the Express.

Verstappen seems ready to patch things up with Russell despite previous tension, hinting at a possible reconciliation in Abu Dhabi. The Dutchman said: "Honestly, of course we have our arguments.

"I'm sure we'll fix it again, but it's good to have a little break. But I'm sure we'll see each other in Monaco again, it's all going to work out."

Christian Horner, Red Bull's team boss, also weighed in with some advice for Russell. Horner said: "We're just focused on going racing, finishing off the season on a high note.

"George had a bit of a rant yesterday. He was ranting in the car last weekend at his team for putting the wrong tyres on or whatever else. He's obviously a bit wound up at the moment.

"Rather than doing it through the media, or through your guys, just go and have a conversation. Talk about it man-to-man, face-to-face. If you've got something to say, say it. And rather than 'he said, she said,' far better to address it that way."

Russell also slammed Verstappen as a "bully" during his furious rant about the Dutchman in Qatar. His comments are still reverberating around the motorsport world heading into this weekend's F1 finale in Abu Dhabi.

The Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit will also see Lewis Hamilton drive for Mercedes for the final time in his career. The seven-time drivers champion will be moving to Ferrari next year.
