Ex-Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg wasn't happy with Sky Sports colleague Karun Chandhok after a comment made about Lewis Hamilton ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.

The now-retired Rosberg, who won the world drivers' championship in 2016 with Mercedes, is currently working for Sky in Shanghai ahead of the two-race event. Despite being team-mates, Rosberg had a fierce rivalry with Hamilton, who narrowly missed out on pole position in qualifying for this Saturday's Sprint race.

McLaren star Lando Norris instead will start in first place after coming out on top in a dramatic qualifying session which was marred by a fire on the track-side grass and then heavy rain. It wasn't Ferrari's finest day, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc managing fifth and seventh respectively.

Hamilton, 39, is due replace Spaniard Sainz at the end of this season when his already-confirmed move to Ferrari is completed. Asked to predict how Ferrari will fare during the Sprint race and Sunday's Grand Prix in Shanghai, Rosberg replied, referencing the battle between Sainz and Leclerc: "We're all looking forward to that dynamic again, Charles doesn't seem like someone who goes for conflict too much with his team-mate."

Chandhok immediately chimed in by joking: "Like you?" But Rosberg didn't see the funny side, though, replying: "Come on. That's not nice to say," before Sky moved on with their coverage.

Previously friends, Hamilton and Rosberg's relationship soured during the German-Finnish driver's time in F1 which came to an end when he announced his retirement immediately after winning the world title eight years ago. Now, though, the former team-mates have "repaired their friendship."

"We see each other from time to time," Rosberg, who's a year younger than Hamilton, told German publication Suddeutsche Zeitung in February. "Every Christmas my daughters receive a huge box full of gifts from him."

The 38-year-old was asked on Friday whether he'd be interested in making a sensational return to F1 by replacing Hamilton at Mercedes. "No, no," Rosberg responded. "I'm done with that. Even though there would be an opportunity at Mercedes, I guess. But no, that's over.

"But anyways, it's amazing to see. I mean Fernando (Alonso) now, he's turning 43 in a couple of months and to see him still driving at the very very best level is really incredible. It's only because he's one of the best drivers of all-time that he's able to do that.

"I mean just like half a year ago Lewis was maybe still the best on the grid together with (Max) Verstappen. Now, the beginning of the season has been a little bit more difficult, but surely Lewis can do the same and go into his 40s, no problem."
