Chris Brown has vowed to prove former boss Glenn Roeder wrong after producing a man-of-the-match display for his new club Preston.
The 20-year-old joined the Lilywhites last Friday for £350,000 after playing only a bit part role at Norwich for the last few months. And after helping Preston claim a shock win over high-flying Watford, he insisted that he has a point to prove to Canaries' chief Roeder.
He said: "I did everything that I could to impress, but no matter how hard I tried I didn't seem to get a chance. I played about 70 minutes in the two months I was there with him.
"I believe that I'm good enough and that I just need to be given a chance and games to get my fitness and confidence."
The former Sunderland man was the best player on the pitch for 73 minutes, before an attack of cramp saw him give way to match-winner Neil Mellor.
Mellor's impact was instant. Gareth Whaley's cross was headed back into the penalty area by Lewis Neal to Mellor.
His first effort was saved by Richard Lee but the Watford goalkeeper was powerless to stop him firing the rebound home.
It was only the Hornets third away defeat of the season, but they seem to be heading backwards. They were once eight-points clear at the top but have dropped down to third.
Boss Aidy Boothroyd is still bullish about his team's chances of promotion and keeping striker Marlon King after rebuffing a £4million bid from Fulham last week.
"It is quite simple, we don't need to sell - especially to a club who we might be changing places with," he said.
"We're chugging along chasing that big jackpot again of promotion and if we can maintain our away form and improve our home form then we will be in good shape."
Preston's new signings Brown and Richard Chaplow featured prominently in the early stages, creating chances for Karl Hawley and Lewis Neal.
Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan produced fine saves to deny Jobi McAnuff and Darius Henderson as the Hornets tried to find an opener.
But in truth, they failed to find the heights they normally scale on the road.
