So, after weeks - nay, months - of excruciating, tense waiting (erm...), we finally know what squad England will be taking with them to France this summer.

Sure, of the initial 26-man "preparation squad", three will have to drop out for the final travelling group, but they won't be the only disappointed Englishmen out there.

There are A LOT of other top players out there who'll be watching the tournament with their feet up in front of the TV - including many who some people thought should've been shoe-ins.

But who could have featured? We've put together an alternative 23-man squad that could have been called up for Euro 2016 this summer...

Goalkeepers

Let's go from back to front. In goal, Ben Foster must feel a little unlucky to miss out on the actual squad, while John Ruddy is an able backup in this alternative squad. Newcastle United's Karl Darlow also looks an impressive talent after coming into his club's starting XI in recent weeks.

Defenders

There's been a lot of talk about the lack of quality in depth in the England squad's defence - particularly at centre-back - and perhaps they should look to some names in here.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has been one of Roy Hodgson's most loyal men, starting the 2014 World Cup - and will feel gutted to not be included, while Stoke fans will never understand how Ryan Shawcross has just one England cap to his name. Phil Jones is on his way back from injury and gets the nod here.

At full-back, there's plenty of ability in the shape of title-winner Danny Simpson, Leighton Baines, and the very promising Aaron Cresswell.

Midfielders

England experience aplenty can be found in Messrs Carrick and Barry, while there are others who can expect to feature in future tournament squads - not least England U21 captain James Ward-Prowse. In addition, Albrighton and Antonio have had superb seasons and bagged loads of assists.

Plus, a message on behalf of all West Ham fans: WHY THE HELL ISN'T MARK NOBLE IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH FFS!

Forwards

If Andy Carroll had stayed fit for the entire season, there's every chance he could be on the plane this summer. Meanwhile, Troy Deeney and Jermain Defoe's goals helped kept their respective clubs safe from relegation this season.

But Theo Walcott is the big name here. His seemingly season-long "bad spell" (according to Arsene Wenger) sees him miss out on a major tournament once again ; his only appearances coming at Euro 2012.

Even putting together this squad included some tough calls, so there is a "reserve sub" list which includes:

Saido Berhaino, Duncan Watmore, Jason Puncheon, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Cork, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Ryan Mason and Jon Flanagan.
