A pair of roommates have caused a divide after one threatened to 'call the police' over their friend's choice of TV show.

A horrified Reddit user learned their flatmate preferred Mrs Brown's Boys to the likes of Monty Python and other social media fans were equally shocked. The revelation even had others suggesting emergency personnel should get involved.

The post to r/britishproblems read: "My roommate said he prefers Mrs Browns Boys to Monty Python. Almost spat my tea at him. I'm thinking of moving out." One user suggested going a step further and praised the poster for showing such restraint.

They wrote: "How restrained, I would have beaten him to death with the mug." Another user wrote: "I can't think of a single thing that I would prefer less than Mrs Browns boys." A third asked: "Have you called the authorities?" However some people jumped to the defence of the roommate.

One chimed in: "Here's the thing right. [Monty Python's] Flying Circus is pretty hit and miss. We remember the hits because they're fantastic, but there's quite a lot of pretty weird and not that funny sketches in there." Another wrote: "I don't find it funny either." A third revealed: "For every five minutes of brilliance, Monty Python has a half hour of s**t."

Others said the disgruntled Brit should employ some tactics from his beloved favourite show. "Slap him with a fish," one person suggested. Another joked: "Time to send in the Spanish Inquisition."

Another: "I don't mind people that don't like Monty Python we all have different tastes and that's ok. But to like Mrs Brown's Boys... nope, that's just wrong. People like that need removing from polite society." Another agreed: "Some things can be a matter of taste while others can be objectively awful," they wrote.

"One person saying they like the taste of apples is a matter of taste. One person saying they like the taste of dog s**t is a matter of that person being a f**kwit."

Another user chimed in: "It's a bit like Bob Dylan. You have to view them in context of what else was happening at the time."
