Sherrie Hewson has given fans an update on a potential return for hit TV show Benidorm.

The show was axed back in 2018 but is facing a resurgence on streaming services, with fans continuing to call for it to be back on screens. The iconic show is created by Derren Litten, who has 70 or so episodes ready to go.

Sherrie appeared on Good Morning Britain today, where she discussed a potential return for her iconic character, Joyce Temple-Savage, amid claims that writer Derren has multiple episodes ready to go if he gets the green light.

Speaking on the show today, Sherrie revealed: "Everybody watches it now and everybody stops me in the street and says they want it back. I think it would be good as a film and it could bring everyone from everywhere who has ever been on Benidorm - it could bring their stories back and together. I think it would be brilliant. It would be two and a half hours, as opposed to half an hour.

"I think it would be very funny. Derren Litten - he loves the idea, but it's not for me to say obviously. He's a brilliant writer and I know he'd write the most wonderful film." When host Susanna added that Derren had said he had 70 episodes written already, Sherrie added: "I know! These days we're living in right now, we need this."

Back in 2018, the show came to an end - with Derren confirming on Twitter it had been axed.

"Yes folks it's true, after months of speculation, I can finally confirm Benidorm series 10 was the LAST EVER TV SERIES of @BenidormTVshow," he wrote, with a source revealing: "Benidorm has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it's run its course. The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it's still on a high. It has been ITV's longest running comedy, which is a real achievement."

Over the years since, there has been a hint of a return for the show. Actors Siobhan Finneran, Steve Pemberton, Oliver Stokes and Sheila Reid - who formed part of the iconic Garvey family - noted at a 2022 convention. Pretending to be his character Mick, Steve asked Siobhan as Janice: "Now that we've sold that b****y hotel in Las Vegas, could this be our new big adventure?"

Derren then said: "Have you just announced season 11 of Benidorm? Who on earth would watch it?" before Steve added: "Ladies and gentlemen, in the words of Madge Garvey in series seven episode two, 'Never say never'. Never say never."
