Celebrity MasterChef puzzled and appalled some viewers as Dominic Skinner cooked up an unconventional dish during the competition.
Friday's quarter-final show (September 6) was a tense affair with Dominic, Strictly's Vito Coppola and singer Mutya Buena all vying for a spot in the semi-finals. The trio were tasked with creating two dishes to impress judges Greg Wallace and John Torode, alongside former Celebrity MasterChef contestants.
However, it was Dominic's culinary selections that baffled audience members at home. He opted for pink prawn toast as his starter but it was his main course that had fans recoiling.
They watched in amazement as he served up blue basmati rice, paired with crispy chicken and broccoli. The unusual choice sparked an array of reactions online, with many expressing their shock and revulsion.
One unimpressed viewer remarked: "Blue rice.... I'll pass, thanks," reports Wales Online. Another chimed in with: "Blue basmati rice? [sick face emoji]. Oh dear. That's a no."
One user offered advice, jesting: "Top tip, never eat yellow snow, or blue rice." A fourth added to the negative chorus, stating: "I don't like artificial colourings. Dom may be out."
Dominic's blue concoction didn't fare well with returning celebrities either. Gogglebox's Mica Ven admitted she was apprehensive about tasting the colourful grain. Despite this, she acknowledged Dominic's creativity.
As the judges and guests sampled Dom's culinary creations, it became apparent that perhaps the rice didn't need its blue hue. Nevertheless, they relished the chicken bites served by Dom a judge on BBC's Glow Up.
Despite his bold taste choices, Dom sailed into the semi-finals, while Sugababes star Mutya was shown the door.
The outcome sparked varied reactions from fans. One viewer expressed their feelings online: "Happy that Vito made the Semi-Final, gutted for Mutya though."
Another fan was adamant, writing: "Mutya should be through!" However, not everyone agreed, as one commenter shared: "I'm rooting for Mutya to go. Nothing about her food is exciting."
