The Chase star Shaun Wallace shared a rare insight into his personal life as he confirmed his relationship status.

Fans of the hit ITV quiz show will be used to seeing The Dark Destroyer regularly gracing their screens in his spare time out from his work as a barrister. But the 65-year-old has always remained relatively tight-lipped when it comes to his life behind the scenes, but recently admitted to being “in a relationship”. Speaking to Loose Women star Kaye Adams and her co-host Karen MacKenzie on the How To Be 60 podcast Shaun admitted he isn't married but doesn't mind. He said: “I suppose I'm married to my career. Put it that way. I like that. I prefer that and I'm happier."

Karen then asked directly if he has a partner to which he replied: "Yes, I'm in a relationship." Kaye followed up by telling Shaun she had done some digging into his life but “hit a brick wall”. Asked whether he had any children Shaun said: "No, I have never had a child." He then explained why he had not started a family and that he has no regrets regarding the matter. He said: "It was a conscious reason when I was a young struggling barrister. I didn't think it would be right to bring up a child when you're trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole."

While Shaun never became a dad himself he has had plenty of children to care for in his life after regularly being made a god parent. He added: "And I've never regretted that decision. I've got 15 godchildren. "Two of them are called Shaun and I'm the best godfather in the world. I probably would have been a great dad but I've got no regrets in relation to that."

Shaun also confirmed that he helped to raise his ex-partner's child and admitted she is the "closest thing to a daughter he has". He raved about her as he opened upon their relationship and confirmed that she calls him dad. He said: “I watched her grow into a lovely young lady. She got a first-class honours degree recently and she got her doctorate the other day and I was there.” Shaun has starred on The Chase since it began in June 2009. He and Mark Labbett are both the remaining original Chasers from the show, with Anne Hegarty having joined them in season two.
