A new Netflix series has been labelled as 'so binge worthy' and has left many viewers 'yelling at the TV'.

La Palma, a Norwegian produced show has already gained plenty of attention just days after being added to the streaming platform. The limited series is the latest option for viewers looking for an example of alternative festive viewing.

The official synopsis reads: "It's Christmas and high season when a Norwegian family checks into their favourite hotel on the island of La Palma. But beneath the idyll, a danger lurks. A young Norwegian scientist discovers alarming signs about the volcano located in the centre of the holiday paradise. She must convince her colleagues that the worst-case scenario is about to happen. If the volcano erupts, a mountain mass the size of Manhattan might erupt into the sea and cause the largest tsunami the world has ever seen. Will the family manage to escape the disaster of ash, gas and lava in a fight for their lives?"

The show has surged among the top ten most watched series on the streaming platform in the UK. It currently sits third behind fellow new releases spy thriller Black Doves and dark comedy No Good Deed which were also added this month.

While the island of La Palma is a real place, and Cumbre Vieja really is the most active volcano on the Canary Islands, the show is purely fictional. In real life, the volcano last erupted in 2021 but the series is not at all based on those events.

It hasn't received enough reviews from critics to gain an official score on Rotten Tomatoes just yet but viewers are already sharing their thoughts. Posting online, one person who has already seen all episodes said: "This show is SO binge-worthy. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and it’s exciting from start to finish. Loved it."

Another agreed with the show's style as they said: "La Palma delivers stunning visuals, compelling characters with each there own unique stories, and nonstop suspense throughout the series. It's an exciting, well-crafted mini-series that keeps you hooked from start to finish."

While a third added: "The show was a positive surprise for me. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Well written and directed and a nice overall message on climate change. Some scenes were too slow and redundant but overall I definitely recommend it, if you enjoy the genre."

However, others have pointed out some negatives. These seem to focus around certain plot points, including the eventual conclusion and some moments which left one viewer shouting at their screen. They said: "Lots of me yelling at TV - 'get out of there now, why doesn't that plane take off?, don't get off that plane.'"

Another said that they were left in tears watching the show. They posted on X: "I’m over here balling my eyes out and rose over here just a humming ..10/10."
