The Simpsons fans were left stunned to discover that the animated show had correctly predicted Richard Branson's journey into space.

Created by cartoon talent Matt Groening, the comedy series has been credited with eerily predicting a host of major events throughout its past 32 seasons.

The latest clip went viral after 70-year-old business magnate Richard Branson flew to the edge of space on board a recent Virgin Galactic flight.

Dressed in a navy astronaut outfit, videos of Richard released earlier this week featured the billionaire floating around his cabin as he looked down upon the distant Earth.

However, it appears that The Simpsons had actually predicted Richard's space trip seven years earlier in an episode called “The War of Art”.

In the cartoon clip, that first aired in 2014, an animated Richard Branson leaned back and grinned as he floated around in a spaceship and admired some artwork.

Naturally, it didn't take long for Simpsons fans to express their surprise that the long-running FOX show had predicted yet another huge event.

“How can The Simpsons show predict every Damn thing?,” penned one Simpsons fan.

Another wrote: "wow, the simpsons really does predict everything!!!!"

Branson's company Virgin Atlantic even chimed in and shared a picture of The Simpsons clip, alongside the caption: "The Simpsons predicted it…"

However, other fans suggested that Branson had talked about heading to space years before the show was aired in 2014.

One viewer said: "Well its been known Virgin Galactic has been trying to get Richard Branson into space for 17 of the 34 years The Simpsons have been on the air, so the show wasn't exactly being Nostradamus here."

The Simpsons prediction is the latest in a long line of eerily similar scenes that have since played out in real life.

For instance, twenty years ago, an episode of hit show imagined life if Donald Trump would one day become US president. The production came true in 2017.

Another episode featured Homer contracting a deadly virus that came to the United States fro Japan, which was dubbed Osaka Flu. The descent into chaos, with Springfield resident's panic buying, could certainly be likened to what happened following the coronavirus outbreak.

What's more, Tom Hanks was portrayed as the calming voice to bring down the raging in America in the 2007 movie.

This was, once again, similar to events that happened earlier this year when Hanks presented a special show on Inauguration Day.

Some diehard fans are even convinced that the show predicted 9/11. In one episode, Lisa held up a magazine with the word New York accompanied by a number nine against a silhouette of the World Trade Centre, which looks like the number 11.
