Dermot O’Leary, who joined Cat Deeley to present This Morning today, revealed he has “unfinished business” with one of the judges from The Great British Bake Off.
The ITV host confessed that he was “upset at the time” when judge Prue Leith aimed a rather brutal dig at him after he received one of Bake Off’s famous ‘Hollywood Handshakes’ from Paul Hollywood himself.
He recalled how he had felt proud of his culinary creation, before Prue’s harsh critique brought him crashing back down to earth.
Prue apparently told Dermot that she “wouldn’t have given him a handshake” for his baked goods - and now the This Morning host says they have “unfinished business” as she prepares to guest star on the show tomorrow.
When Cat asked Dermot if the exchange had “upset” him, he admitted: “At the time it did.”
The conversation began when Cat asked Dermot why he "wasn't singing the theme tune today", causing him to respond: "No, because I was thinking about Prue Leith."
"Why, what were you thinking," Cat probed, as he replied: "When I did Bake Off last year, I got a Hollywood handshake for my ice buns."
Explaining further, he said: "It was an absolute dream. Very happy, right? Prue Leith came up straight away and went, 'I wouldn't have given you a handshake for that.'
"In other words, we've got unfinished business tomorrow!" Dermot exclaimed as Cat started laughing.
Dermot insisted Prue was still "very nice", before Cat asked: "Were you upset? Did it take away from it?"
"I was then, yes!" Dermot admitted, "It wasn't all bad because I still won." Cat then added sheepishly: "Sorry Prue!"
Earlier this year, Dermot was awarded the Star Baker apron on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer on Channel 4.
He competed alongside Spice Girl Mel B, 48, comedian Fern Brady, 37, and radio presenter Greg James, 38, who were all tasked with making iced buns in the Signature category, as well as a Showstopper where they recreated their celebrity lookalike in biscuit form.
At the time, Dermot said: “'I'm thrilled. I genuinely thought Fern was going to win because she's been knocking it out the park the last couple of weeks. I'm going to have it framed!”
The Signature bake involved the celebrities baking eight iced buns each and had to incorporate something meaningful to them into their creations.
Dermot chose to make fruits of the forest iced buns, with his bake being inspired by his childhood as a ‘kid of the 80s’.
Paul told Dermot he had ‘recreated the flavours of my childhood’ and awarded him the famous handshake, leaving him “choked up”.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITVX.
