BBC spoof documentary series W1A showed the inner workings of the broadcaster and the chaos behind the scenes.
The series was a continuation of the series Twenty Twelve, which poked fun at the organising committee for the London Summer Olympics.
W1A ran for three series between 2014 and 2017 with David Tennant narrating the scenes of the spoof documentary series.
With a cult following, the show returned for a one-off special poking fun at the Covid-19 pandemic and for a new special for Comic Relief earlier this year.
There are rumours the series could return in another format in the near future, which will delight fans of W1A. Some cast members have gone onto have respectable TV careers while one actor is currently enjoying his Hollywood breakout.
Hugh Bonneville - Ian Fletcher
Hugh Bonneville's character went from preparing for the 2012 Olympics as the Head of the Olympic Deliverance Commission to reforming the BBC as Head of Values at the broadcaster.
Since his time on W1A, Bonneville has remained a fixture on British TV, but also made waves in Hollywood with roles such as Henry Brown in the Paddington film series, Muppets Most Wanted and Bank of Dave. He was recently seen in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, Douglas Is Cancelled and BBC drama The Gold.
Bonneville was also adored for his role as Lord Grantham in Downton Abbey, which earned him two Emmy nominations and a nod from the Golden Globes. He also returned for the feature films including the 2025 sequel.
Jessica Hynes - Siobhan Sharpe
Siobhan Sharpe also migrated from the Olympics team to help with the BBC's PR as a BBC Brand Consultant - even if she wasn't fully up to the task on some days.
From her time on W1A, Jessica went onto to direct her first film The Fight and reconnected with David Tennant to star as a mother raising a daughter with a severe learning disability in drama There She Goes.
She has also appeared in Paddington films, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, Am I Being Unreasonable? Years and Years as on The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.
Monica Dolan - Tracey Pritchard
Straight talking Tracey has seen it all, nothing surprises her, and she prides herself on knowing how to deal with whatever it is before it happens. The Senior Communications Officer also clashed with Siobhan and was very firm with her views.
Since the show ended, Monica has appeared in Wolf Hall, Alan Partridge, Inside No.9, Black Mirror, Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Sherwood.
Jason Watkins - Simon Harwood
Simon was an important figure at the BBC and underneath his apparent informality and almost relentless bonhomie he is probably one of the BBC’s most strategic Directors.
At this point, it's easier to say what Jason hasn't been in. The prolific TV actor has appeared in Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, McDonald & Dodds, Line of Duty, Midsomer Murders, The Crown and much more since the end of W1A.
2024 has been much quieter for Jason, with roles as Alfred in Batman: Caped Crusader and TV drama Coma.
Sarah Parish - Anna Rampton
Anna was responsible for everything the BBC broadcasts in all formats and also hard to please.
She had a reputation for being uncompromising, for not doing doubt, and for making decisions quickly and then sticking to them, albeit nearly always the wrong ones.
The Peak Practice star has had a steady flow of TV work with roles in Broadchurch, Trollied, Industry, Pglets and Geek Girl.
Nina Sosanya - Lucy Freeman
The experienced producer was invited to work on a variety of programmes that she never dreamed she would be invited to work on when she originally joined.
Nina has since gone on to appear in Marcella, Killing Eve, His Dark Materials, Brave New World and Baby Reindeer.
Hugh Skinner - Will Humphries
Once the intern in the BBC, he eventually found a job as Ian Fletcher's PA. He was constantly trying to find something to do and given menial tasks to do by staff.
Since W1A, Hugh has appeared in Fleabag, Poldark, Zog, The Witcher and films The Invitation and Wicked Little Letters.
David Westhead - Neil Reid
Bumped up to regular role in W1A, Neil Reid was the memorable Controller of News and Current Affairs. His role was so popular that he was asked to do a leaving speech for a real-life BBC exec who loves the show.
After appearances in The Coroner, Jericho, Reg, Bodyguard, David appears to have taken a career break with only Enola Holmes 2 in 2022 his recent role.
Rufus Jones - David Wilkes
The Entertainment Format Producer was the brains behind Britain’s Tastiest Village with a lot riding on it.
Rufus has since landed a number of film roles including Paddington, Stan & Ollie, Wonka and The Foreigner. The actor recently appeared in Disney+ hit Rivals as Paul Stratton, as well as roles in Beyond Paradise, Four Lives and Hijack.
Ophelia Lovibond -Izzy Gould
Izzy started as the PA to Simon Harwood but her hard work saw her promoted to Development Executive by Director of Better Anna Rampton. Izzy was one of the hard working figures that made W1A work and often dealt with tasks others didn't want to deal with.
Ophella has since gone on to appear in TV and film, with roles in Elementary, Feel Good, This England and Partygate. Marvel fans may recognise her as Carina in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: The Dark World.
Jonathan Bailey - Jack Patterson
The enthusiastic lad was the PA to Anna Rampton and later an executive in betterness development.
Jonathan Bailey's career has recently skyrocketed thanks to playing Fiyero in the musical fantasy film Wicked. He was hailed as a standout character in the popular musical and will return in the sequel.
Bailey has also appeared in Broadchurch, Crashing, Bridgerton and Heartstopper.
