Hungry for crab? If so, it won’t be long until the Fiery Crab, 250 S. State College Blvd., will finally open. The restaurant is located in the spot that formerly housed Islands Restaurant.

I saw several comments around the internet about the incoming restaurant, including that it had opened and then closed, or that it never opened or something else was going in there.

So what is really going on with the Fiery Crab? Victoria Crigan, vice-president at Fiery Crab Seafood Restaurant and Bar, headquartered in Baton Rouge, set things straight:

“There were some delays with renovations and building inspections, but we are planning to get the store open very soon,” Crigan said via email.

Wonder if it’ll have crab and grits?

More news on Corazon Modern Kitchen and Bar. It will be back, but not at its former Brea Boulevard location.

Owner Fernando Romero said in an email Corazon is an award-winning restaurant with high hopes to expand and the goal for the immediate future “is to relocate within the next couple of months.”  Good to know Corazon will be back.

Earth Day is also back on April 22. One way to celebrate Earth Day a bit early is to attend the groundbreaking for the huge modernization of Arovista Park at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 19.

Our city officials will be there, shovels in hand, ready to kickoff this exciting project. It all will happen on the east side of the park on Sievers Avenue, across from the Brea Senior Center.

While the actual construction start date is still to be announced, some changes to expect in the first phase of the 14.94-acre park’s renovations is an all-accessible playground with play equipment made to be enjoyed by both kids and adults with disabilities.

Phase 1 will also include four more pickleball courts, upgraded basketball and volleyball courts and a new amphitheater, plus event space. But that’s not all. The parking lot will be resurfaced and include EV charging stations plus upgrades to The Tracks at Brea trailhead.

That is all just the start of an amazing transformation for Arovista, which, besides the skate park, has not had major renovations in more than 30 years. The time is right.

The time is also right to partake in Love Brea Day on April 27. It is your opportunity to volunteer some elbow grease to spruce up all around town, or help distribute food at Southlands Church, 2950 E. Imperial Highway.

There are a variety of projects to sign up for at LoveBrea.org.

It all starts at 8 a.m. at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center where you sign in, get your Love Brea T-shirt to wear that day, have some breakfast goodies and then head to your assigned spot by 9 a.m. At noon, or whenever your project is completed, head back to the civic center for a free “thank you” lunch.

If you are unable to participate in the hands-on projects on Love Brea Day, make hygiene kits for folks in need and drop them off a the civic center between 10 a.m. and noon April 27 or any day at the Brea Resource Center, located next to the Brea Branch Library at the civic center.

Start with a 1-gallon zip-locking bag and fill it with a small bottle of hand sanitizer, face wipes, toothpaste, toothbrush, small deodorant, tissue, comb, a small mirror and a small water bottle. I’m putting one together and getting the items from the bins of travel-size personal care products at Target and Walmart. It’s another way to participate in Love Brea Day.
