Grant Schneider’s future appears bright with his commitment to attend Stanford.

His view atop the awards podium at the CIF State diving championships on Thursday also was sparkling.

The Capistrano Valley Christian junior became the third Orange County boy to claim a state title with a strong performance at Clovis West High.

Schneider scored 612.60 points to outdistance runner-up Gunnar Grubbs of Palo Alto by just over 28 points.

Schneider’s 11-dive score on the 1-meter springboard finished as the third-highest winning total in meet history.

He produced one of best dives in Round 10 with a reverse 1 1/2 somersault with 1 1/2 twist. He earned a 10 and three 9s from the  judges.

Schneider joins Crean Lutheran’s Colten Young (2015-16) and Villa Park’s Andrew Harness (2019) as O.C. boys who captured state diving championships.

Schneider signaled a strong meet by winning the CIF-SS Division 4 title and placing second at the section’s state qualifier.

Santa Margarita’s Valentino Nieto and Laguna Beach’s Chase Shipp finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Nieto was slated as an alternate but scored 15 points for the Eagles, who are contending for the boys team title.

Mater Dei sophomore Gianna Kenrick led the county girls by placing fifth with a score of 475.40. Molly Gray of Clayton Valley won with a score 530.40.
