Former Angels manager Mike Scioscia is selling his longtime, waterfront home on Little Balboa Island in Newport Beach for $9.2 million.

Located across the bay from the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, the 2,393-square-foot, Tuscan-inspired house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and an elevator that services the first two floors. County records show Scioscia and his wife, Anne, bought the home in September 2003.

Cabot Harvey of the Lily Campbell Team at First Team Real Estate who handled that deal, said it sold for $3 million.

In the 21 years since then, the Scioscias have improved the property with a long list of cosmetic and energy-efficient upgrades. They remodeled the kitchen, installed beach-style hardwood flooring, lined the closets with cedar, installed dual-pane windows and repainted the interior.

A solid wood and beveled glass entry door, flanked by matching sidelights, opens into the foyer with its brick herringbone-patterned floors.

There’s a family room with a built-in wet bar and a wall of glass doors that extend the living space onto a brick patio facing the bayfront sidewalk. On the opposite end is an interior courtyard patio.

The remodeled kitchen on the second level features a center island with seating, quartzite slab countertops and a backsplash and stainless steel appliances such as double ovens, a gas cooktop and griddle, a wine fridge and a double pizza oven. It opens to the combined living and dining room with a stone fireplace, built-ins and bay-view windows.

Under a cathedral-open-beamed ceiling, the primary suite features a fireplace, two closets and an oversized walk-in shower with a built-in bench and multiple shower heads in the bathroom.

The house comes with a private dock, which was rebuilt at one point and can accommodate a 50-foot yacht.

Harvey, who is now the co-listing agent, said his longtime clients also “ripped off the roof and rebuilt the entire rooftop deck,” which features a fireplace, a barbecue center with a sink and a refrigerator and 360-degree views.

Lily Campbell, also of First Team Real Estate, shares the listing with Harvey.

The house is located on the east bay front. A small bridge connects Little Balboa Island to Balboa Island, which is known for its relaxed lifestyle.

People vacation and live there year-round, making the manmade island, with its charming downtown stalwarts like Dad’s Donut and Bakery Shop and The Village Inn restaurant, a laid-back departure from Balboa Peninsula.

Scioscia, 65, was renting another place in Newport Beach before he purchased the island home the Los Angeles Times reported at the time. He was then a few years into what Jeff Fletcher, Orange County Register’s longtime Angels reporter, described as 19 seasons as the winningest manager in Angels history and guided the franchise to its only World Series championship in 2002. He is a two-time winner of the American League Manager of the Year and has led the Angels to the playoffs seven times.

Before managing the Angels, he played 13 seasons as a big-league catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers and helped the team win two World Series championships. He signed with the San Diego Padres and later the Texas Rangers, but didn’t get the chance to play for either team due to injury.
