Karen Kucher

Karen Kucher is an award-winning staff writer and editor at The San Diego Union-Tribune, where she has covered everything from breaking news to public safety issues to city and county governments to the San Diego Zoo. She is a native San Diegan and a graduate of the University of Southern California. Kucher has won numerous writing awards, including first place for feature writing from the San Diego Press Club in 2023, first place for breaking news in 2021, first place for the “Inside the Fire Academy” in 2020 and first place for investigative/enterprise in 2016 from the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists.
