Caroline Flack was in a state of panic when she made an urgent call to her lawyer, Nick Green, just weeks before her tragic suicide. The star was desperate for a way out of the trial she faced for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend. Nick has recalled his final conversation with the distressed 40 year old and shared his belief that she could have been saved.
Caroline, known for hosting Love Island, took her own life on February 15, 2020, shocking the entertainment world. She had contacted Nick three weeks prior, sounding "terrified and vulnerable." Nick told MailOnline: "I took the call, and instantly recognised the fear and pain in her voice. She was close to tears. I broke the ice by interrupting her. 'Caroline, I must warn you, if you start to cry, I'll put the phone down.'"
He noticed a momentary return of her resilience during their talk. Nick pointed out that it was the body-cam footage from the night of the alleged assault on Lewis Burton that was haunting her the most, reports the Mirror.
The incident occurred on December 12, 2019, and when police arrived at the north London scene, they found both Caroline and Lewis bloodied, with Caroline having sustained cuts to her wrist. After receiving hospital treatment, she was served with a caution and later charged with assault. She was scheduled to stand trial in March 2020.
It's been reported that the presenter had confided in friends, saying she would "rather die" than have the recordings from that night played publicly. Nick Green highlighted the unusually strict bail conditions that prevented Caroline from contacting her partner, which could have exacerbated her mental health issues.
He argued that such stringent conditions were unnecessary given Lewis's refusal to make a statement, the absence of children involved, and Caroline having her own home to return to. "I believe it was the invoking of this 'no contact' condition which sowed the seeds for her suicide," Nick continued.
"It ensured she remained isolated and emotional, and it impacted constantly on her fragile mental state."
He also claimed that Caroline was reluctant to challenge the order due to fear of attracting more media attention. "She told me she feared it would result in more media coverage, and that the prosecutor had threatened to play the body-cam footage," he added.
"All my fears were being confirmed. All I got back, when I informed her that an appeal [to remove the 'no-contact condition'] would be heard in the judge's chambers and she would not have to be present, was 'this is not what my lawyers have told me'. The more I heard, the more I disliked."
Amidst the heartache surrounding Caroline Flack's tragic passing, her close friend Danny Green has expressed that it's "no wonder" her mental health took a nosedive. A mere three weeks after learning her trial was set to commence, the star was discovered deceased in her Stoke Newington residence.
However, Nick Green holds onto the belief that there might have been a chance to rescue her. Now he is poised to support Christine, Caroline’s bereaved mother, in her determined quest for answers regarding her daughter's demise.
There’s a forthcoming documentary slated to premiere on Disney+, where Christine will delve into the perplexing series of events during Caroline's final 24 hours and the ominous night, probing if her daughter’s end could have been averted.
