Gordon Ramsay showed his true feelings towards soon-to-be son-in-law Adam Peaty by helping to pull the legendary Team GB swimmer out of a “deep, dark hole”.
Three-time Olympic gold medallist Peaty announced his engagement to the celebrity chef’s daughter, Holly Ramsay, this week. Holly, 24, excitedly took to social media to share snaps of the pair and her sparkling engagement ring, writing: "I cannot wait to be your wife".
They began dating three years ago, during which time the 29-year-old Peaty fell down a spiral of depression and alcoholism and saw his eight-year winning streak come to an end at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Peaty has opened up about his inner turmoil, describing it as "three years of hell" - which he only managed to overcome thanks to Holly.
Peaty also revealed how eight Michelin star chef Ramsay was instrumental in his comeback to compete at the Paris 2024 Games, where he won silver in the 100m breaststroke. Ramsay showed exactly how much Peaty means to him by offering valuable guidance, which transformed him from a drinker and a party-goer to a focused athlete once again.
In an interview with The Sunday Times in April 2024, Peaty said: "He [Ramsay] is an incredible energy to be around and an incredible person to have that guidance from. Gordon is a high performer.

"He worked his way up to the upper echelons of his industry and works in a place where there's no bulls**t. I take a lot from that and from the professionalism he has every single day with a relentless pursuit.
"So, when I see that, I'm like, 'Yeah, why can't I work like this? Why can't I do this every single day? Why do I have to be so emotionally engaged with things?'"
Adam and Holly started their love story in 2021 after meeting through her sister Tilly, who was also a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing the same year as the swimmer. They later made their relationship official and showed off matching tattoos earlier this year, with Holly inking the letter 'A' by her ear while Adam got a 'H' on his chest.
An overjoyed Holly captioned her photos on Instagram: "I am marrying my best friend. I truly cannot put into words how I am feeling right now.
"I still remember how big my smile was the morning I got home from my first date with you. Thank you for letting the little girl inside of me feel loved, seen and happier than ever. I love you and I cannot wait to be your wife."
Peaty took to social media to express his own happiness, writing: "I can't believe you're going to be my wife. "I'm truly the luckiest man on earth to have such a gentle, caring and beautiful woman by my side. You fill my heart to the brim and give my soul peace.”
Ramsay, who is reported to have given Adam his blessing to marry Holly last month, once more displayed his respect for Peaty by welcoming him to the family. The TV star wrote: "Congratulations to this gorgeous girl @hollyramsay... so happy for you and @adam_peaty!
"Hols, watching you become the woman you are today with your kindness and your love is absolutely infectious. Adam is a very lucky man. Welcome to the family!"
