It's been 61 years since Cher first started out on her career in the music industry, but at 78 she remains as in demand as ever. Now she's appearing on Graham Norton's chat show (on Friday 29 November) to promote her new memoir. But aside from her busy schedule, Cher is kept busy by her much younger boyfriend - Alexander Edwards, who at 37 is 40 years her junior. The singer and her music exec beau went public with the age-gap romance last year, and the pair are still going strong. In a rare chat about the romance, she opened up to OK! last year about just how she makes life work.
She explained of Alexander: “He’s a dear but I haven’t hardly been able to see him. It’s like the in and out, kiss, ‘hi baby’ and we get to have a dinner or something like that. But he’s going to some fashion shows with me here [Paris], which is admirable because he isn’t that interested, even though he loves fashion. He just went to hold my hand.” But who is the music executive taking over Cher’s heart?
Alexander caught the limelight when snaps emerged of him and Cher hand in hand last November 2022. Following the public appearances, Cher faced some flak over having a beau 40 years her junior. However, ever unflappable, Cher clapped back on X with a barrage of posts showing unwavering nonchalance about the age gap.
In the whirlwind of tweets, the Believe hitmaker made her romance with Andrew Insta official with a snap of him captioned: "Alexander". When quizzed if he was her "new man," she sealed it with a love heart emoji, and when questioned about the age difference, she replied, "Love doesn't know math."
Far from being an unknown, Alexander has history dating within the world of showbiz. His past includes a three-year stint with model Amber Rose, which ended in August 2021 amidst her posting he cheated on her with 12 different individuals to her Instagram which he later admitted. The former flames have a son together.
In March 2024, Amber opened up about her relationship with Alexander and how Cher is involved in their son's life, on The Jason Lee Podcast. She expressed joy over their partnership, saying: "I'm very happy that [Alexander is] with Cher because it creates stability for when [our] son goes over there," and went on to add, "It's not all mayhem and stuff."
Professionally, Alexander is as an exec at Universal Music Group one of the big three alongside Sony Music and Warner Music Group, home to megastars like Post Malone, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande.
Alexander first crossed paths with Cher during the glitz of Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, and though they weren't snapped together, the diva shared a picture with his mate Tyga.
A year later in September 2023, they turned heads by turning up at PFW looking every inch the love-struck twosome. They were spotted in the front row at the Balmain Womenswear Spring/Summer 2024 fashion extravaganza.
On an episode of Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg, Cher got candid about how her texting saga with Edwards kicked off. Recounting her chucklesome irritation, she shared: "I left to go to Switzerland, and he texted me. He said, 'Where are you going? ' I said, 'I'm going to Switzerland, I'm a little tired.' And then he wrote me, 'Well, get some rest babyyy.' And I went, he doesn't know me well enough to put three y's on baby," the hitmaker recalled. "I was kind of pissed off. And then he just started texting me."
Cher humorously conceded her own love advice got thrown out the window, as she confessed, "I told my friends, don't fall in love with a younger man, we're too old, and don't ever fall in love by text. There goes that theory."
