King Charles III released a series of official coronation portraits to mark his crowning on 6 May 2023.
The King thanked everyone who made the festivities a success in a note to the public and included several photos, including solo shots of him and his wife Camilla, 75, a picture of them as a pair and an official portrait with other royals.
The larger portrait photo still omitted some of the royals that might have appeared in previous official portraits, however, as a part of the King’s plan for a slimmed down monarchy.
King Charles III, 74, chose to omit all of the non-working members of the royal family, including his son Prince Harry, who reportedly jetted off shortly after leaving Westminster Abbey to spend time with his wife and kids back in California.
Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were also notable for their absence - as was their dad, Prince Andrew.
Charles’ commitment to only include working members of the family meant that the second in line to the throne, Prince William’s son George, was also absent from the photograph.
The Prince and Princess’ younger children, Charlotte and Louis, were also missing.
In total, there were just 12 members of the family, including Charles and Camilla themselves, in the official portrait.
These were (from left to right) Prince Edward, 87, the Duke of Kent and the youngest of the King’s siblings.
Next to him stands Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 76, and her husband Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, 78, and the late Queen’s cousin.
To the right of them is Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, 68, and his wife Anne, Princess Royal, 72.
Sir Tim also acted as the late Queen Elizabeth II’s equerry between 1986 and 1989.
Then we come to King Charles III, 74, and Queen Camilla themselves, who stood in the centre of the portrait.
To the right of Camilla is Prince William, 40, the King’s eldest son and heir to the throne, and his wife Kate Middleton, 41, the Princess of Wales.
Next to Kate is Sophie Wessex, 58, the Duchess of Edinburgh, who is holding the arm of 86 year old Princess Alexandra.
Princess Alexandra is another cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and attended her coronation in 1953.
On the other side of Princess Alexandra stands Sophie’s husband, Prince Edward, 59, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Edward is the third child of the late Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and inherited his Dukedom from his late Dad.
