We all love to unwind with our favourite TV show after a long day, and it seems the late Queen was no different. The monarch was said to be a fan of many popular programmes, some of which might surprise you.
It was previously revealed that the Queen enjoyed watching the comedy show The Kumars at No. 42 while relaxing in the evening. In fact, she was such a fan that she had been known to do impressions of the characters for her guests. The late Queen's knack for mimicry isn't new, as her former dresser, Liverpudlian-born Angela Kelly, previously revealed the late monarch's impressive talent for copying accents.
A brilliant story from 2001 about the Queen divulging one of her favourite TV shows to a journalist at Buckingham Palace has re-surfaced - and it truly isn't what we expected.
Journalist Phil Jones shared that The Queen once told him that The Kumars at No. 42 was one of her favourite shows and that she could even "recite some of the one-liners" from it. Jones wrote: "In 2001 I was invited to a media function at Buckingham Palace."
"We chatted for ages, which I can tell you is rather surreal. My brain kept saying, 'Bloody hell I'm talking to the Queen and I can't think of a single thing to say!' In the end, I alighted on, 'What's your favourite programme?' Straightaway, she said, "The Kumars at No. 42" and, even more astonishingly, proceeded to recite some of the one-liners from the grandma character, played by the brilliant Meera Syal."
According to an article by The Times, Her Majesty's TV favourites included the gripping drama Line of Duty and watching tennis during the summer.
It was previously reported that the Queen has also watched Netflix's The Crown - the multi award-winning show based on the lives of her and her family. It is believed that the Queen watched the series after she was encouraged by her son and daughter-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
A source said: "It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film. They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them."
They added: "Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatised."
