Lora Cicalo, senior editor

Lora Cicalo is a lifelong San Diego County resident and a 36-year employee of the Union-Tribune. She began her newspaper career at The Daily Californian in East County and joined the San Diego Tribune in 1987 as a copy editor and assistant news editor. Since the merger of the Tribune and The San Diego Union in 1992, she has served in a variety of roles, including assistant news editor, A1 editor, news editor and senior editor/news and copy desks. She served as managing editor for eight years before being named senior editor of the Union-Tribune in August 2023. She holds a B.A. in journalism and an M.S. in mass communications from San Diego State University and is a part-time lecturer at her alma mater.

Hillary Fox, human resources manager

Hillary Fox is a human resources professional with years of experience across various industries. She attended Old Dominion University, holds a degree in psychology and is certified in human resources with the Society for Human Resource Management. Before she joined MediaNews Group, she worked as people operations manager for the Washington Commanders. Hillary joined MediaNews Group in 2022 as an HR manager supporting various groups and is now HR manager for The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Paola Hernández-Jiao, community relations manager

Paola joined the Union-Tribune in 2021 as community relations manager and host and producer of Together San Diego. Prior to this, Paola hosted and produced the Al Día Con Paola Hernández morning radio show at Uniradio. She spent more than twelve years working in media, and was a television producer, host and community outreach manager at ABC 10News and Azteca San Diego duopoly stations. Paola is an Emmy Award winning producer and host and has received multiple regional and statewide awards and recognitions for her commitment to serve the community. She is a San Diego native, bi-cultural and bilingual (English/Spanish) and enjoys using her skills to contribute to non-profit organizations and the Latino community. She has volunteered with several non-profit organizations and served on multiple boards of directors throughout her career. She has a bachelor’s degree in international business and a Master of Business Administration degree. Paola lives in San Diego with her husband and their daughter.

Fiona Leung, director of events

In 2019, Fiona Leung joined the Union-Tribune as the director of events. Some of the events she’s leading include Festival of Books, San Diego’s Best Awards and Caregiver SD. Prior to this, she was events director of San Diego Magazine, where she produced 10 events annually ranging from 400 to 9,000 attendees. She found her passion for events at the start of her career in public relations, where she planned events for culture, luxury, hospitality and nonprofit clients. Outside of the office, she runs Bliss Out Camp Out, a women’s adventure retreat in San Diego and Baja California. She is from Los Angeles, and moved to San Diego to attend UC San Diego. She has degrees in psychology and communication.

Katie Musolf, senior director of advertising

Katie joined the Union-Tribune in 2011 and has held various sales and management roles across the organization, including digital sales consultant, multimedia account executive, entertainment sales manager and digital sales director. She takes a digital-first approach to advertising, but understands the value and impact that a multi-media campaign can bring to an advertiser. Katie attended the University of Wisconsin, where she received degrees in communications and psychology. She now lives in Poway with her husband and two children.
