About

Sue is a professor of medicines’ management and health services’ research, and a community councillor. Her multidisciplinary group is contributing to patient safety by developing and testing personalised nurse-led adverse drug reaction profiles to identify, communicate and minimize any adverse effects of prescription medicines and optimize doses.  Their current project is the Adverse Drug Reaction (ADRe) Profile. In clinical trials, this has reduced medicine-related harm, such as pain, sedation, nausea and falls. It also reduces prescribing of antipsychotics and sedatives. Our research influenced recommendations for lower doses of medicines in labour, with a concomitant improvement in UK breastfeeding rates. We are building on this, and work showing the impact of antidepressants on breastfeeding and infant outcomes, with our European collaborations exploring medicines in pregnancy.
