Congratulations are in order: There’s another Munn-Mulaney baby in town! Months after detailing her “terrifying” breast-cancer diagnosis and subsequent double mastectomy, Olivia Munn announced on Sunday that she and husband John Mulaney had welcomed their second child, Méi June Mulaney. The little sister to the couple’s 2-year-old son Malcolm Hiệp, Méi was born via gestational surrogate on September 14. In a post on Instagram, Munn explained that she had “so many profound emotions” upon learning she would not be “able to carry my own daughter,” but found peace with her surrogate, whom she describes as a “real-life angel.”
“When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding,” Munn wrote alongside photos of the growing family of four. “Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
“I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded,” she added. “Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese 梅💜.”
Mulaney chose a different tone to hard-launch his daughter, writing, “Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon🐉. We stole so much stuff from the hospital … I love my little girl so much.” In addition to photos of him and his wife cradling their newborn, he also included a video of baby Méi spitting up on his shoulder as he burped her.
In April, Munn revealed to People that her 2023 breast-cancer diagnosis had resulted in four surgeries, including the double mastectomy, a lymph-node dissection, reconstructive surgery, and a nipple delay. One month later, the actress told Vogue she had undergone a fifth surgery, a hysterectomy, and had frozen her eggs following her initial diagnosis in the hopes of growing her family. After three years together (and two years after Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler finalized their divorce), according to People, Munn and Mulaney tied the knot with baby Malcolm by their side. “When I’m with him, it’s the only time my brain doesn’t think about being sick,” she told Vogue of her son. “If my body changes, I’m still his mom. If I have hot flashes, I’m still his mom. If I lose my hair, I’m still his mom. That’s really what matters the most to me. I get to be here for him.” Congrats to Munn and Mulaney on their growing family!
