Good value for the money. Large spread out property. Enjoy the surroundings and strolls. Grounds are lovely-Spectacular really. Staff is attentive. Bed is soft but comfortable. One must ask front desk to turn down air conditioning. Plenty of phone chargers in room and bathroom, however none near bed. Hair dryer is powerful. Pool is giant with ample shade if desired. Plenty of chairs. Wave pool is boring. Lazy river is slow. Some of water slides broken. Also plenty of shaded chairs at beach if desired. Beach is lovely. Soft white sand. Some sea**** but they clear it daily. Lots of water sport options. Gym is great. Lots of daily classes as well. Night club was fun. Food is mediocre but plenty of options in different buffets and a la carte restaurants, if you can get a reservation. Just not top tier food. But one is very particular if you can’t find something good. Had to experiment with drinks to find ones I liked. Very few wait staff to bring drinks at pool and beach. If you do order a drink from a server, then very long wait for delivery. However, plenty of bars to order drinks, easy to just go get yourself. Lowest quality food at beach in my opinion. Much better food at pool. The free shows appeared lame. We planned the fire show but it rained out. All in all it was a great value for the price. You could spend double elsewhere for better food and service but this resort was great for our group of moms and young adults. A great time had by all.

Stayed for 2 weeks at the end of September, our first visit to Mexico and had a great time. When we arrived at the hotel we got a welcome drink and the staff on the front desk were friendly and gave us our keys and the cards to collect our pool towels. The bedroom was spotlessly clean, very spacious, a well-stocked mini bar, and plenty of towels to use in the bathroom. The safe was free to use and also in the bedroom was an umbrella and an iron and ironing board. The balcony had plenty of room to sit out and a small drying rack which would have been better if it was slightly bigger as you cannot hang anything over the balcony. The pool area was large, the pool to the right of the bar was the noisier pool as that's where the activities took place however if you don't want to join in and have a quieter holiday then the pool to the left is far enough away. The staff from the bar come around the pool taking your orders and also come around with a trolley to make your drinks at your sunbed. The first week we were there you could go down later and get a sunbed, however the second week people seemed to put their towels on very early and we found there was a party of about 18 that put towels on but very rarely actually used the beds, so we had to get up early to get a bed which wasn't really a bad thing as we got the early morning sun before it got too hot. All the staff were very friendly, and the entertainment team were great a big shout out to Mauricio (hope that's how you spell it) as he always had a smile on his face and was definitely born for the job. The evening entertainment is good we also visited the Riu Tequilla at night especially on the Friday nights for neon night and white night which were fantastic and worth a visit. The food was excellent and always plenty of choice, wine and prosecco was always flowing with lunch and the evening meal and nothing was too much trouble for them. If you didn't want to go in for lunch then there is Pepes who does burgers, hotdogs, salad etc that you can sit on your sunbed and eat. We had great holiday and will definitely be returning.

This time I stayed in two five-star all-inclusive hotels in Cancun, and the other one was the famous Hotel Xcaret Mexico ( hereinafter referred to as X). Compared with the hardware facilities and scenery of X, I recommend this Chinese tourist who is not familiar with Q. ) We went for Christmas, Q Hotels are less than half the price of X Hotels (of course X Hotels include amusement park tickets, not worth the price), not far from Xcaret Water Park. Environment: Q is a very special hotel, like living in the Amazon jungle in harmony with animals, peacocks leisurely walk next to the room, on the side of the road, luck will fly to the balcony railing of the room for you to observe up close; People with a heart can also see howler monkeys, giant turtles, lizards... People who are afraid of animals don't have to worry about being suddenly frightened, except that birds are basically surrounded in fixed areas. Landscape: The largest cafeteria in Q is next to a sinking garden, and one or two people choose a location close to the railings to eat. X is the garden and Q is the jungle. Food & beverage services: Q Hotel has a feeling of being at home, the waiter is more happy and easy-going, the wine is open to drink, the buffet is fresh and there are many, basically no waiting, usually not seafood (it is said to protect the sea), Christmas day big lobster, oysters eat, not stingy at all. In contrast, the waiters at the X Hotel are all feeling of taking money and money for people to eliminate disasters. There are not many people in the buffet and they have to wait. Looking at the place, there are actually few ways to eat and drink. Activities: The beach is an open beach and does not smell the fishy smell of other hotel reviews. For me, if there is a sea, the swimming pool is superfluous, but there are often atmosphere activities organized by the hotel in the swimming pool and the beach, and there are unlimited cocktails. There are parachutes and motorboats for various charges. It is recommended to sign up for snorkeling at the hotel when the weather is clear (around fifty knives), I saw turtles and lizards.

Our stay was beautiful, I will not deny that. However it was not without a few letdowns. I am a woman who is all about a pool and was so excited to swim in the absolutely gorgeous pool I saw in all the photos online. I visited the week of Jan 1- Jan 7th and the weather was quite warm about 75 degrees every day. HOWEVER, the pool was absolutely FREEZING to the point where I was shivering being in it. Felt like an ICE BATH :( It was not enjoyable and with this being a secluded/ all inclusive hotel there weren't very much other forms of entertainment during the day except for the pool and the beach (the water was warm at the beach). It was so disappointing. I called the front desk to ask if anything could be done but they stated was no pool heater/temperature adjuster. We paid about 4 grand total for this trip and to be completely honest were only able to enjoy the pool once. My next complaint comes to the beach. We went to the beach which gets pretty bus. There was a day where every single chair was full and two of the hotel cabanas were being taken over by random street vendors - taking away two spots for the guests from the 100% packed beach area. These guys were NOT a part of the hotel and are the vendors who go around trying to sell cigars, etc. I watched the staff pass by them multiple times and say nothing while ACTUAL GUESTS had nowhere to lounge by the beach. That was very disappointing as these guys were laughing loudly, staring at guests, and did not move as people walked by looking for chairs. Other than that I will admit that the food was great, the staff was super nice, the hotel grounds were IMPECCABLE, the rooms were nice, everything else was quite lovely. But for the reasons listed I will not be staying at this all inclusive again, although you can still make the most of it and have a lovely experience overall. I'd recommend a stay if you're not going for the main reason of enjoying the pool and the beach.

Fair price, clean, extra friendly staff, ok continental breakfast in a very beautiful place (l'embasciata d'italia). We were afraid of the noise both from 5th ave and from the restaurant in the morning. I guess we were very tired everyday and had a wonderful night sleep. There was noise indeed from 5th ave but nothing extraordinary. Didn't even use earplugs (though I still recommend bringing good quality ones).

As the Banyan Tree service did not have to say, that is, the charges are expensive, even the expensive is not good for hygiene, the pool villas, the small collapse in the yard can not lie, placed in the corner of the eaves do not say mosquitoes There are many ant bugs and a lot of spider webs. It looks dirty. The colony is also covered with insect secretions and spider webs. The partitions in the room are all gray, which makes people feel uncomfortable. And if it is too far to go to the beach, it is not convenient. It can only be said that this Banyan Tree is relatively backward, not as good as the nearby Viseroy.

My family of 4 has been traveling down to the Rivera Maya for the past 10 years. Every year we have stayed at a different resort as we haven’t found the “perfect” one for us yet. This resort left us with mixed feelings that I’ve broken down below: Service – 5/5 What makes this resort not get a lower rate is the service. We had a personal concierge assistant during our stay, Israel E., who was amazing! He organized dinners, excursions, birthday decorations for my son and was always ready to answer any questions we had. He sole handedly made our stay fabulous! We also experienced good service at the restaurants and bar, never waiting long. Food/Drinks – 3/5 I consider myself a realist and don’t expect to have Michelin star dining at an all-inclusive. For the price point of this resort, I would say the food is just average. The breakfast buffet was always the same but inconsistent on quality. Sometimes the food was hot and sometimes it looked like it had been sitting out for a long time. Often times the stations (omelet, crepes, Mexican) didn’t have employees working so they were empty. Lunch and dinner were again just okay. Be prepared for long waits on room service. I would have liked to see more fresh fish and grilled options vs. fried food. Our favorite restaurant was Haab which was Indian. The drinks were also inconsistent. For example, I ordered a mojito at the pool bar 3 times and each time it was made different (once correctly, the second time just lemonade with rum and the third time it was margarita mix with rum). I ordered a Singapore Sling at the Sling bar and the bartender had no idea what that was even though the bar is named after it. Rooms – 3/5 We had a one bedroom ocean view. The room had an incredible view of the ocean, comfortable beds and we loved the sliding door that separated the living area from the bedroom to separate where the kids slept from us. That being said, the rooms need some major TLC. The dresser cabinets wouldn’t close and were ready to come off their hinges. The fridge wasn’t level and would shake anytime the motor turned on and the bathtub fixtures would literally fall off when we tried to turn them. The hotel sent a maintenance guy up and he just said, “be careful when you turn the knobs”. Pool/Beach – 2/5 I loved the Bali beds on the beach, however you will have a hard time swimming in the beach due to the concrete structures sticking out that many others have mentioned. The resort also needs to do a better job of cleaning the pool. First thing in the morning the pool is clear and clean. By midafternoon, the pool was murky with trash floating all around. It really grossed us out. I’ve been to a lot of different resorts and never seen this before. Kids activities – 2/5 We have a 9 and 10 year old that this review is based on. The reason this is not a 1/5 is because of the more inclusive option of going to the Nickelodeon waterpark. The kids absolutely love this park. The activity team also had daily activitie

I stayed 4 nights at Royal Tulum Catalonia and as a frequent traveler in my 30s I want to give my opinion so you don’t make the same mistake I made. This is a resort for older couples who just want to lay on the beach and do nothing. The resort is beautiful and the pool and jacuzzi are nice. The staff tries hard to give good service. But the food is absolute trash and the drinks are even worse. You are far from downtown so if you want to go out you will have to take lots of taxis which add up. Also the staff will try to book taxis and excursions for you at a crazy marked up price. It’s best to leave the resort and flag down your own taxi and pay for the excursions when you arrive. Pros: beautiful resort, nice pool, pretty beach Cons: food is horrible, cheap alcohol, have to make reservations for dinner, only allowed 1 hour at the spa, far from downtown requiring lots of taxis, lots of bugs.

Pros - safe, clean and beautiful - best wifi we've ever had. Video calls on the beach good. And it's free everywhere - enough to do on resort to keep you busy for 4-5 days. - short travel to Tulum, sailing excursions Cons - 75 minutes from the Cancun airport which puts this resort south of Play Del Carmen - the price puts the Catalonia in a category with similar/better resorts closer to other hotspots - not much seating available at the pools - Drank for 8 hours straight and wasn't drunk? Not sure what happened, but like other places there are stories about watered down booze - you use a website to book stuff and get info about the resort, but a bunch of us couldn't book a-la-cartes Tips and tricks - Bring water shoes for the beach (there's always stories about people cutting their feet on coral). - Bring small bills for tips because nobody can break down 50s or 100s on the resort. - Consider upgrading to ”exclusive” or ”privelaged” at the resort. We upgraded for 20$/day and got access to all the perks (up to 25% off at the resort shops, access to the restricted beach bar, pool, and beach area, access to 2 more restaurants, and free hydrotherapy sessions at the spa) making this little upgrade worth every penny Stayed here with my wife for a wonderful week in October 2022. The staff was mostly content and happy, but a bit understaffed at the bars. There was a considerable amount of amenities for the size of resort, with several pools and restaurants. The ocean conditions were very pleasant (bathtub warm) and the sea wall breakers kept it mostly flat. The daytime activities seemed a bit rushed at the pool/beach volleyball court, and the night time shows were well done and varied for content. I would recommend this resort if you're already planning to be down in this area, but it can't really compare to other resorts right in Playa Del Carmen or Cancun.

Let's start by saying a vacation is what you make it. If you've travelled to other resorts before, you will know that there are certain issues that may come up; difficulty reserving restaurants; towel supply; COVID restrictions, etc. If you go into a vacation with realistic expectations, you will not be disappointed. That being said, this was our 3rd time at the Colonial. We just returned from a fantastic week (April 25 - May 2). The food was wonderful (I didn't have to cook!), the ocean was crystal clear & warm (despite the sea****), the rooms were clean and the grounds were breathtaking. The resort is large, so be prepared to walk through their incredible gardens and walkways. I can not say enough about the beautiful grounds! Never had an issue getting chairs at the beach or pool. You may not find your ideal spot, but there were always some available. And, there will always be ”those people” who reserve spots and don't show up for the entire day. Every resort has them. We did have a hick up with our room smelling of mildew, but we asked to change and our needs were met immediately. Within an hour we were transferred to another room. Most of the staff were incredibly warm and friendly. Those are the ones we tipped well. All in all, we had a wonderful time and a great experience!

Where do I start! I booked this hotel based on the good reviews! On arrival at the hotel I was told check in want until 3, and the room wasn’t ready. I had no issues with this as per the check in details. I was told to place my luggage in an insecure room and I wandered up to the pool area, which seemed lovely on first impressions. I wandered out of the hotel and grabbed some lunch to return at the check in time. On returning to the hotel, there were three guests together clearly having check in issues and were refused a key card each. We checked in and was given a key card for room 010 with no explanation, the member of staff could not speak any English and the security guard pointed in the direction. I had booked a suite. This was the best accommodation on offer. What I was greeted with was vastly different. It was dark, smelt musty, the bedroom was on an internal corridor with no natural light, the terrace overlooked reception and you could hear everything. The bed linen was stained and covered in hairs with the audacity of a note saying charges would be incurred for any stains. We immediately complained and the receptionist was clueless and unable to help and couldn’t understand us. A member of staff from the tour table assisted and we were informed that there were no alternatives until tomorrow. Although we weren’t convinced by this. We didn’t unpack and went to the pool area and after having to request pool towels which were old and stained we ventured up. The pool area wasn’t busy and beds available, although the beds were old and d falling apart and only 8 in total. You had to arrange your own umbrellas which were a mish mash and some broken. Sophia at the pool was lovely and obliged during happy hour. We were informed that the hotel had recently been taken over and the pool bar had separate owners. The next day we attended reception at the requested time and we asked to views before moving, this caused some issues and they agreed. The room was 101 and was much better in comparison, although basic furniture and the bathroom was dirty but the linen was cleaner and the bed wasn’t broken like in the first room. The standard of cleaning was poor and staff would often have small children in the bottom of the cleaning trolleys whilst working. The pool towels were never changed and it was hit and Miss whether you got enough towels in the bathroom, along with toilet roll and without telephones in the room you had to visit reception. There was no hairdryer and water only given on first day.we did laugh when a note was next to say we owned mo way for stained items. I was ready for an argument on check out but it never happened and no money was requested. The hotel is in a good location for 5tb Avenue and has the potential to be so much better

The hotel and all the experience was terrible. The food in the buffet is pretty much the same everyday and the quality is really low. There are not enough sunshades for all the guests in the hotel. One day, we left our towels on the sunbed, when we came back 30 minutes later they were gone and the staff told us that they ran out of beach towels. We lost our sunbeds and towels and we had to leave the pool because there weren’t any seats left. The staff doesn’t care about the hotel guests. The golf cars that are supposed to give you rides in the resort refused to take us like 90% of the time. The hotel concierge feels like a huge scammer. We asked if we could get a ride to the main gates of the resort and they refused to take us with the golf cars and said that we could call a taxi for 5$ each way (all of this is to move inside of the resort area). Also, they try to scam you by paying 50$ to go to playa del carmen, wich is like 15 minutes away. It’s a complete joke. Even for the price I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

Another great vacation at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Once again, our lovely buttler CAROLINA took care of everything for us, and particularly all the attentions for the birthday of my wife. CAROLINA is professional, efficient, and always happy. Special thanks to the CAFE AMAT STAFF, all the girls are so kind, and AZUL STAFF, particularly LUCINA, and YAZMIN at the ADULT POOL. And finally, we have really appreciated all the attention the STAFF and the CHEF of LUCA had for us for our last dinner. Muchas Gracias!!

The hotel is on the beach of Carmen, the beach is super beautiful, the hotel is next to the beach, go straight out! The rooms of the hotel are not big, they are all two-story small buildings, one with four rooms, the environment is OK, but the room setting is very general, if you have high requirements for the room, it is recommended to take a look. This is the cheapest all-inclusive hotel, with two restaurants and a pool bar. In the afternoon, the swimming pool has a fitness instructor with dance exercises. The hotels along the coast are all on the same beach, so no difference. Overall, the price is okay.

Another wonderful visit...love the tents and the overall atmosphere. The tents are extremely comfortable, well appointed and spaced far enough apart to give privacy. The entire property is uniquely designed & quite beautiful. The pool area is very relaxing, and the restaurant serves up some wonderful food. Nice beach just down the road, with beach club amenities. Secluded enough to really give the feel of being away from the population. Can't say enough about the fantastic staff...such great folks, and extremely accommodating. Can't wait to get back...always a pleasure !

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. We came for a friend's wedding in October 2021, and will keep out wedding-specific items for this review. There are many activities in the complex, but we came to see friends, hang by the pool, eat and drink. Overall this fit the criteria. During this time, it was still very humid, but perfect for being in the pool (not necessarily a wedding outfit!) Room service is convenient, but not always fast, especially late at night. I think 2 hours+ one evening for us. The room service food was better than some of the restaurants in my opinion. We didn't go on the beach other than for a pre-wedding party. They go through COVID testing when you check in.

Our stay in Playa Del Carmen was excellent all because of Acanto! This gem of a hotel is beautiful, well kept, and has spacious rooms that are very comfortable. The best part is the location! Right in the heart of town but somehow still quiet at night. Restaurants, shopping, and the beach all within a short walking distance. Definitely stay here for your trip to Playa!

From 05/27/23 until 06/01/23 this was the 3rd time I've ever been to this hotel, but the 1st time since 2009. My experience was a negative one, sadly. There was a blonde receptionist I first met who was fine. It was the brunette receptionist that was not accommodating, not friendly. This hotel has 2 buildings, one on 5th Avenue and the other 10th Ave. They put me in the 10th Avenue building where there was no one on site. 6 days, I did not see anyone, day nor night. Walking through the courtyard at night and not one room had lights on. No one at the jacuzzi, nothing. I asked to be moved from this building to the main building where there were other guest visible and the brunette receptionist said no and walked away. There was another employee that I asked and he said no. I stated that I would look for another hotel and that other employee said ”ok”. I only had the breakfast plan and ate 2x in the cafe and the food was ”ok”. The first day I was still a little hungry and took a little box of cereal with me. I got stopped at the door and was told that I could not do this. The only positives: (1) I had a clean room and (2)the tours planner Bernardo was great. He was the only person to treat me nice and talk to me like a friend vs. a number. I had enjoyed this place in the past but will probably never come back.

The appearance of the hotel is okay, the breakfast is OK, but I don't think it's a four-star hotel, it's almost a three-star hotel. And it's super humid, even the paper towels in the bathroom are wet, it just feels wet to the touch. The whole room smelled of damp, which was very uncomfortable. The service is good, the sink was blocked, and someone came to fix it within ten minutes of calling.

Hotel location is very good, shopping street is close by, five minutes walk to the beach, it can be said to be quiet in the middle of trouble, has been recommended to friends, the partition of the balcony is best frosted isolation If the requirements for western food are not so high, this buffet breakfast is still okay. The waiter is very nice. I will take the initiative to ask you for drinks and coffee, and I will take it for you. Of course, I can also take it myself. I love western breakfast so it feels very much satisfaction

Over all we had a good experience. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. We had two hotel rooms and both were clean. Beds were comfortable, everyone slept fantastic. The air conditioning kept the room temperature very refreshing. We had no issues with them working properly. I gave a rating of four. A couple of reasons for this, nothing really bad. As several people have stated on here, it is an older property and needs some TLC. The doors lock properly, no problem with that. Unfortunately in both rooms, the safe did not have locks we could use. We carried our passports on us all the time. In the afternoons the pool had a murky tinge to it. Not a big deal for us because the hotel is right on the beach. We had the covered veranda room and it was literally out the door and on the soft sand. With the hotel being beach front, the staff gave us wrist bands so we didn't have to pay for any beach chairs. A bonus! Just down the beach is an ocean front pub/club. Music is played until midnight usually. You can hear it. The music didn't bother us, they played good tunes :) The hotel is in a great location. Plenty of restaurants and shopping. The ADO bus station is just a block away. Close to several coffee shops. To recap, it's a nice little hotel with fantastic staff. The cleaning staff would come around daily if you wanted your room tidied up. Great ocean view with a nice breeze to help keep you cool.

Absolutely shocking, do not stay here! The experience from start to finish WILL be a bad one. Avoid like the plague. Let’s start at the beginning…. There were two people in front of me checking in when we arrived, it took the two staff just over 30 minutes to book these customers in. The staff (Raul and Cecilia) appeared to struggle to use the IT system and could not manage to work the card machine either. They held me at the desk 20 minutes before giving up and requesting I came back later to pay….. this was no speedy process either. They also ran a seemingly archaic paper system alongside the IT setup, just to slow things down a little further. There were no towels in the room, we rang reception and asked for some - only to be told that they had ran out. We had to ***** one of the beds and use the bed sheets to dry ourselves after washing. Very late on that night we managed to get hold of a couple of towels and when we got up in the morning to shower there was no water. Now I travel plenty and understand that there can be issues with water feeds, this is exactly what the staff blamed it on. Well, until I went to the restaurant opposite and found out that they actually had water. The breakfast was appalling. I wouldn’t feed it to a pig, in fact I’m not sure that a pig would eat it. Plenty of shell in the scrambled egg though, if that’s your thing……? A small tanker came and left, the hotel then had water. I’m not sure how long it will last, only time will tell. (Edit - it ran out again the same evening). I was lucky enough to rinse the soap from my burning skin, I have attached a picture- you can see the water is selected at full flow and also the minimal volume of water coming out of the shower head. The staff appeared to be anything but bothered about all of the issues and unfortunately couldn’t care less about putting things right. On the plus side the location is ok(ish) and the room was clean…. This clean room could be fully enjoyed upon managing to open the door. The key card system seems to have a bit of an issue. You can get the lift moving after swiping your card a small number of times, getting into our room though was a different story and always took around 20 to 30 swipes. I forgot to mention the pool, sat in the shade and very dirty. Nothing like the pictures we saw. This is not a review from a disgruntled customer, I am not that person. 2 nights of shocking accomodation will not spoil my fairly lengthy trip. I would stay here again, if it were $20 a night. £320 for two nights in this place - absolute robbery! There are some outstanding Air b n b’s around here for far less dollar and in a totally different league to this hole also, do yourself a favour and book one of those instead.

Seamos claros.
