I've been staying in Chikho Kasungu for 4 weeks. The rooms view wasn't particularly great, but the rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything you need; bed including mosquito net, bathroom with warm water, fridge, air conditioner, closet, table. The free Wi-Fi works well as long as there's power. Some things that are advertised are not available in the hotel: there is no safe in the room, the pool has been gone for some time, there is no gym or billiards, and the rooms are definitely not soundproof. Besides, the menu in the restaurant has way more options than is actually ever available. Even when indicating in the morning our preference for dinner in the evening, they could not deliver what we wanted. Also, a waiting time of an hour or more is common, so it's better to order in advance. The amount of food we received every morning with the breakfast included in the room fare is great. Every morning we were welcomed by an extensive buffet. If just a few guests were staying, there would be no buffet, but we could order an egg in any way we wanted. We would then receive a full plate with potatoes, vegetables, 2 sausages (though always still red on the inside, even after repeatedly telling the staff to cook it longer), chicken, and multiple eggs prepared how we ordered. Usually it was more than enough to have food for lunch as well, as we could keep the plates wrapped in plastic in our fridge for the kitchen staff to warm up for us at another time. The hygiene of the hotel is good, as the corridors are cleaned daily and the rooms as well if you leave your key at the reception. There is barely any insects in the room, unless you leave your windows open for too long. But the mosquito nets around the bed work fine. Overall, compared to the standard in The Netherlands, Chikho Hotel would not be 'very good', but for Malawi/Kasungu standard it really it. I enjoyed my stay here, the staff was nice and everthing is in good condition.
