We visited the Mermaid again this year from 13th Sept to 30th Sept with this being our 7th visit. We now go with a feeling of visiting an old friend or family member and in turn that is exactly the way we are treated from the moment we step into the hotel until the moment we leave. I must firstly give special praise to the General Manager Thomas Rodrigo and his leadership team who went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable and memorable. Since joining the Mermaid last year Thomas was met with a number of challenges in terms of creating the right culture to improve the customer experience and to raise the bar in getting his team to improve and maintain even higher standards than before and I must say that these challenges have been achieved in a very tough economic climate where the smallest margins can make a huge difference. I have to say also that his leadership style has been built on a solid foundation of his ability to listen to his guests and take decisive action in putting measures in place to solve or head off potential future problems before they happen. Having talked about the leadership of the Mermaid I would now like to go into commenting on specific areas of the hotel and give my thoughts about our experience. Reception Experience Always willing to help with a welcoming smile and engaging attitude. We must give a special thanks to Thanuja (Head Receptionist) who led by example and certainly helped to enhance out stay throughout. Rooms Experience The room was always clean and tidy everyday with a real attention to detail in making sure the standard was consistently high. A special thanks must go to Nihal who has his own unique style of room cleaning which is exceptional and very much to our taste. Dining Experience When visiting an old friend, you can certainly expect to be very well looked after and this is where the Mermaid really excels with their expertise in hospitality and attentive delivery. It’s so nice to see that everyone from the head chef to the junior waiting staff are all on the same page in providing a coordinated and flawless customer experience. It’s also nice to see that the menu has been very well thought through to focus on good taste, variety and nutrition whilst considering the potential for waste when using ingredients. I would like to give a special thanks to some of the staff who helped to make our dining experience so memorable but would also extend that to anyone we may have missed. So many thanks to of course Cheeky followed by Wasantha, Sammi, Rasika Hashan, Ishan and we can’t forget PK who brightened up every morning with a smile and special omelette. Activities Experience This time in particular my wife and I really got involved in a lot more activities as we wanted to get the most out of our stay and I really can’t thank Shevan enough for his professionalism, tireless energy and support in making this part of our holiday so enjoyable especially with all the time we spent playing tab
